I'm making this thread a wiki since there are issues that keep getting repeated (breakfast and transportation from/to CDG). Feel free to add whatever you feel is important - stick to facts of please and not one off exceptions (eg if you get an upgrade to the Presidential Suite on an award stay without any status - that's definitely a one off that doesn't belong in the WIKI - obviously you can do a regular post on it).

Public transport to the hotel from CDG

The best option is to take the Roissy bus to Opera. From there, the hotel is about a 5 minute walk.

The next best option is to take RER B to Chatelet-Les Halles. All trains from Roissy/CDG head south into Paris so no worries there. Some go express all the way into Paris (Gare du Nord, so Chatelet-Les Halles is the second stop); others are locals, in which case there are a lot of stops; some are half-express, half-local ... but all stop at Chatelet-Les Halles; and there is no point waiting for an express because it is rare if ever that an express will overtake a local. So get on whatever comes first. At Chatelet-Les Halles, transfer to RER A for one stop to Auber (which is joined to Opera station). You will be heading westbound, toward the termini St. Germain-en-Laye/Poissy/Cergny. You have to go up the stairs and back down for the Auber-bound train. Do not race across the platform for the RER B because that will be heading eastbound, to Gare de Lyon, Nation, Vincennes (and, depending on which one you get on, eventually Eurodisney!) The walk from the Auber exit closest to the RER stop takes about 10 minutes.

Public transport to the hotel from Orly

Take the Orlyval train to its end at Antony, then switch to RER B to Chatelet-Les-Halles and continue as above. In this case you can just cross the platform from the RER B to get the RER A headed to Auber.

Breakfast

The breakfast at Cafe Jeanne is free for Globalist members but is 40-50 euros per person otherwise. A modified but still very good version of this buffet breakfast is also available in the room and is also free for Globalists. Tips are not covered but then again the theory in France is that the service charge is in the price.

Museum tickets & pass from the concierge

You can buy "skip the line" tickets to the Louvre or Orsay for 18€ each, which is higher than the regular tickets via the Louvre & Orsay websites. But being able to "skip the line" obviously adds some value. They will also sell you the two day Paris Museum Pass for 55€. That is a 7€ markup.

Phone/data recommendations:
Lebara worked really well for me. What you need to do:
• You must unlock your phone (you can do this for free online with ATT through their website if you are out of contract)
• Order free SIM card at Lebara.fr a few weeks before your trip. I don’t think it took more than 2 weeks for my SIM card to arrive
• Activate SIM card at https://www.lebara.fr/activate-sim-detail?isoCode=en_GB or search “activate SIM” at Lebara.fr
• Load your SIM card with what you need. I paid 10 euro for 3G of data, unlimited SMS and local calls for 10 days (this should be plenty for most tourists)
LeFrench Mobile did not work so well for me: I paid 20-30 euro for local and international calls for my sister but was only able to make local calls and SMS

restaurant recommendations:
Nearby:
(We're here on 1 Oct 2021 and it appears this restaurant is closed permanently ...) Le Cap Bourbon- good, inexpensive, our server was nice and attentive (by French standards), great local crowd, menu has English translation
We ate a local Thai restaurant - Yo - its about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and very busy. I had a guinea fowl green curry - a first for me. Very good food and friendly service.

Other:
L'Avant Comptoir is a wine bar with great, relatively cheap eats and a great atmosphere and friendly, English-speaking staff. Standing room only and tight.

I booked Meet & Assist at CDG and a S Class transfer through the Concierge when I last stayed as well as a return transfer. The service was impeccable, met at the aircraft, whisked through VIP immigration and handed over to the driver. It was the perfect arrival into Paris after 24 hours of flying from SYD via AUH.

Seems like I’m not able to login with my confirmation #, I have an upcoming multi-day stay in just couple days..

Wondering if PHV concierge will initiate welcome email to guests before the stay? I had received none so far.
On the contrary, WA Amsterdam reached out to me weeks before my upcoming stay with hotel info and offering to make reservations for transport and restaurants. Heck I even got welcome email a week before from Andaz Scottsdale.

My stay is not until late September and I could log in ...

Were you able to see the rates for airport transportation ? They started at 306 for a Mercedes E class and a maximum of 3 people. The S class started at 387, again for up to 3.

I have not received emails from the PHV in advance of past stays, other than the generic "reminder" email 1 week in advance. If you need to contact a concierge, this email should be good ... [email protected]

Interestingly I booked on multiple reservations and none worked. Anyway, I am able to see the rates now when opening the link via PC while clicking through mobile will take you directly to the login page. Thanks for the email info!

Better to contact the Concierge and have a personal connection than the e-concierge.

IME, you are likely to be treated better and get a better upgrade by booking the hotel limo. My theory is because front desk staff confirm your pickup with concierge and are more likely to upgrade your reservation when looking at it.

Fun story: I was momentarily separated from the Meet & Assist escort and as I was about to exit the airport doors and was approached by French police with machine guns. I assume it was because of my ethnicity and possibly because I only travel HLO. They questioned me about my stay, how much cash I was carrying etc. The escort returned explaining he was with us and the police apologised and we were immediately free to leave!

I use Meet & Assist in almost every port I arrive into.

Those prices are more reasonable than I expected.

Several years ago I stayed at PHV during a big heat wave and decided not to take public transportation back to CDG. The concierge desk arranged a "radio" taxi (fixed rate) driver to take me to the airport in (my requests) an air conditioned vehicle that permitted me to pay via AmEx. It was a good experience, especially as the driver took some "secret" routes to avoid a major traffic jam on the autoroute leaving Paris. I had the sense that this was a driver the hotel used frequently. IIRC the cost was 65 Euro plus tip, which seemed reasonable compared to regular taxi fares. [Normally without much luggage, I take the old AF bus to Opera and then walk to the hotel, about six blocks. RER/Metro is much harder with any luggage at all IME.]

However, I very much agree with the comment above that one is much more likely to get a good upgrade, have the room or suite ready for early arrival, etc., if one books car service in advance through the hotel for arrival. This seems especially important for one's first stay at a luxury property.

There's also usually a tidy mark-up that's pure profit for the hotel.

Of course. But it’s always with the ROI!

You bring up a great point "Pre Covid" How long will it take for us to return to some sense of normalcy in international travel? I have cancelled a handful of planned trips and frankly waiting till at least next year not having to do any mandatory business trips thanks to Zoom. I am booking into early 2023 for Africa/Doha/London. But wish the best to all that are traveling now.

Gosh my Int travel is at Zero regretfully right now
My business class flights to Australia all canceled by Qantas.Apparently still no Americans allowed
I canceled my return to Europe next week to see where the mutating variants are going and if booster shots will be available
Realistically likely looking at next year I think its ok to take a break after 30 years consistently traveling the world with rare exceptions
Also I have been disappointed at enough hotels right here in the US with closed restaurants limited menus and weird protocols to say
I'm still mostly happy at home with all the cut backs and program devaluations upcoming
Many of the programs have me less interested in their decision making .
Then thrown in ride share at double and triple the normal fare I'm shockingly back to taxis again!
