VoiceOver Not Reading Buttons Correctly

When using iOS with the built in screen reader VoiceOver:
http://apple.com/accessibility
(settings, general, accessibility, voiceover)
Controls or buttons such as "reservations" are spoken only as "button" "button." It appears they lack the iOS programming equivalent (not sure what its called in IOS) of an HTML alt-tag.

Apple has a development guide on how to ensure iOS applications are accessible at:
http://bit.ly/ia11ydev

Also agree that functionality should take priority over pictures of a kid with his dad, or whatever the graphic is. :)

I'd like to see a web check in process where you can get your room# via the app. And mid to long term, I'd like to use the phone, or some type of permanent card, as a room key. I've noticed certain Hyatt's, like Crystal City, now use a proximity card type key and I'm not sure if this is a technology upgrade that would facilitate a sort of permanent key?

I would also like to pick the Diamond amenity (able to review the properties choices) from the app.

Also agree there should be good intigration with your current stay with both current and future functionality and capabilities.

Glad Hyatt has an app now, I'll likely mostly use it to more quickly check to see if stays post, and possibly to make last minute reservations. Would also see most using it to check to see if I have been pre-blocked with an upgrade or to a regency club floor. Will also use it for web checkout, I do like the email/mobile web checkout feature.

Bill from E-Commerce here. We'll review the App accessability standards - thanks. Re the pictures, our plan is to continue to advance personal and contextual info to the starting page. He are looking at ways to support RFID check in and have some tests underway. The industry needs someone to take a leap with NFC in North America - I'm hoping Apple does so with the iPhone 5. The Diamond amenity request is on the list. Thanks for all your comments.

The things I miss most are:
- detailed account information about GP points transactions
- more favorites! 6? 60!

2) The reservations tab is only displaying 6 items. This is a limitation we're looking at removing. The concern is that if you have 10 or 20 reservations (which some of you do), this will cause a long delay in retrieving them. We're looking at options. In the near term, we'll probably return the upcoming nearest 6 reservations (all reservations would still be available from the GP screen).

This would not be a problem if you started retrieving reservations as soon as you authenticate the user. Then they will be queued up and display instantly when you choose reservations.

Update on iPhone

Bill from E-Commerce here. Just as an FYI, we are changes to improve the reservation order and # limits which we hope to have out in the next week or so. Dealing with some of the complex reservations causing people issues is also underway but I don't yet have a timeframe.
Best, Bill

iPad?

Any info when an iPad app will be available?

Website vs. App

Noticed last week that the App WAS working while the website was down.^ Thumbs up for that!

FriendlySkies Dec 15, 2011 3:12 pm

Bill, is there any update on showing more than six reservations? Thanks!

RDB68 Dec 15, 2011 3:14 pm

Any idea when an Android app will be available? Last I heard, Android was the most popular platform ...

Bill from E-commerce here. We are in final testing of a 1.1 version that will fix a number of small things and expand the # of reservations.

Bill from E-commerce here. We'll launch the android version early next year, it is in development now.

Bill from E-Commerce here. We're discussing whether we should create one. Interestingly, 5% of our traffic comes from the iPad right now. The web site is very usable on the iPad. Our destination pages, like newyork.destinations.hyatt.com look particularly good - almost as if they'd been designed specifically to look good on an ipad ;-)

APP BUG??

Hey Everyone,

Recently I booked a room, wrong date, (by accident) not a prepay rate, cancellation day of reservation, I corrected the date 5 minutes later. Everything was showing correct on the app. I was checking in today not yesterday. At 11pm central, I get an email from the hotel, my reservation had changed. I wake up, look at the app, and the reservation is gone. I called the hotel to ask what happened, (I was told I was charged for no show) I explained and was told sorry, but you were no show, I can charge you for a room tonight if you would like? I asked to speak to a manager, I was told sorry but he will not change it. You've been charged already. I advised, I would stay somewhere else today.

I called Hyatt Diamond line, and was told sorry we can't help you, hotel must change it for you.

A bit disappointed as everything showed correct until I got the email yesterday. Diamond line was very nice, but she could not help..

Anyone else try to change a reservation on the app?

I would suggest that you contact our Gold Passport Concierge here on Flyertalk via PM to see if there is something they can do. I don't think that this is necessarily an app issue but a more general problem that changes done to a reservation by the customer online doesn't often "take" even though it may show that it "took".

Hoping for the android app soon!

I tried to make a change to a reservation via the app and couldn't accomplish what I was trying to do. I think it was to make a change to the bedding type from single bedded to double bedded room. Had to get to the laptop to make the change.

nighthawkrs Feb 29, 2012 5:21 am

What I'm really missing are account details. Checking points in detail would be great.

nighthawkrs Feb 29, 2012 5:23 am

Also my opinion, the website is all right on the iPad.
Spend your time improving the iPhone app!

Android app? No?

nighthawkrs Aug 28, 2012 9:43 am

Very silent here

Any news about future improvements? The app works pretty well, but at least in my opinion there are still two issues, the first one is a big thing:

- account details, especially transactions, are still not viewable
That would be realy a fine feature!

- background operation would be a nice feature

iPhone App

New version of app avail today. Is it just me or does this version keep on crashing after login and trying to view my existing reservations?

rpk113 Jun 25, 2014 6:43 am

Same here

I looked at it a bit, this app is like "lipstick on a pig" Appears to be the same app guts with new gui.

sensei Jun 25, 2014 6:52 am

I like the redesign (much cleaner look and full reservation information ^), but the app crashes when I click on "My Account". Every time and both on my iPhone and iPad. It seems the app was not properly beta tested before release.

TMOTEE Jun 25, 2014 7:02 am

After updating the app it will not let me sign in. There are no places to enter my account number and password but it keeps asking for them. Why can't Hyatt get a good IT department ?

angatol Jun 25, 2014 7:31 am

.....

austin_modern Jun 25, 2014 8:31 am

... works perfect for me. I like the refresh.

iPhone App

Worked great for me !

Scifience Jun 25, 2014 11:36 am

Initial impression is that the new app looks—and, importantly, works—much better than that prehistoric artefact that Hyatt had us using for so long. It (mostly, at least) follows the iOS 7 UI paradigm as well, which is always nice to see.

RTW1 Jun 25, 2014 1:45 pm

Do they even test these apps before release... Completely useless on an iPad since the GP login info is presented outside of the useable screen area, and no way to scroll....

Hyatt App

Hello Flyertalkers!

Happy Tuesday. The Hyatt app is intended for the iPhone or iPod touch devices. The app should work on iPad's that are newer than the iPad2, but if you need to have the best experience, please use hyatt.com.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thanks,

Dana

Well hallelujah!

This has nothing (or almost nothing) to do with the improved app... but it has been driving me crazy that I can't see what room I'm booked into in the reservations section. Or anywhere else for that matter.

Except that now I learn - by complete happenstance - that if you click on "Rate Rules" it will give you that rather fundamental piece of information. I am grateful. But... really??

Must hurry off the to the main web site to see if it works there too...
