Some of us were lucky enough to receive confirmation from Hyatt staff prior to the shut out and out stays were looked at on a case by case basis.
Thanks for confirmation. I rec'd email from GP affirming what you are saying, but the "upthread" discussion seemed to indicate that GP was indeed accepting MGM stays towards Diamond Challenge and I thought I might have rec'd a bum steer.

Initially the response from GP was yes, they do count (which was later established as being wrong).

The good thing is, instead of digging a deeper hole for themselves, those that were advised of the incorrect information (myself included) in writing, were given the opportunity on a case by case basis to have the stays included.

From what I have been told, and as per general comments being made recently, the GP team are now all on the same page, and there has been no more incorrect information put out there, so the door has been closed.

Those dirty scoundrels. I spoke to GP in late June and was told MGM stays did count - and booked the Bellagio. Then learned a few weeks later (after show tickets purchased/meetings arranged) that they would no longer honor what they told me. GP gave me 4K GP as "compensation", but that was a lousy trade. I gave my tickets to friends as it became a hassle with work commitments.

Sad to say, hence why it is always best to get things in writing

I am doing a diamond challenge. I was recently approved and upgraded to Diamond. I have some previously booked stays. I think I read somewhere on these boards that stays booked prior to achieving a higher level of status might be coded at the status at the time of booking. Is this true? If so, what is required to be done to ensure that I receive diamond benefits at stays that were booked prior to my becoming diamond? Thanks.

Currently on my challenge and all my reservations were all updated automatically. The phone agent also stated that the reservations would be updated automatically to the new Diamond status. I received no complications checking in with diamond status on the reservation updated. It was quite clear to all Hyatt reps I'm a Diamond Member.

Yeah, nothing to worry about there. The only problem I ran into is my booking showed non-status on the screen at check-in but when I asked about Diamond amenity they went to my profile, saw the new status and update their booking specific info.

Sorry for my ignorance, but there is no way to ask for a Diamond challenge when my only other hotel status is SPG Gold, right?

Correct, I believe you can only match SPG Gold --> Hyatt Platinum but it might be worth a shot? In the email you could try to insist on being matched to Hyatt Diamond? It's a long shot though...

Thanks for the responses. Just to follow up on my own question and reinforce what others are saying, interestingly, today, I got e-mails for all by one of of my existing reservations reconfirming them and noting my Diamond status.

Hyatt Passport sent me an email of programs they would match. It was confusing and stressful because it failed to list Fairmont Platinum, so I scrambled banking on the challenge and reservations booked prior to begin loyalty with Hyatt hotels. I demonstrated that we stayed over 50 nights last year at Fairmont and I was accepted for the Diamond Challenge.

Lesson learned from this newbie is to trust the FT info presented here, and to trust Hyatt Gold Passport judgment to grant exceptions. But you got to try and request with Gold Passport, as exceptions can't be made if requests aren't made. The Diamond Challenge is designed to win business, so if you can demonstrate legitimate possibility of becoming an ongoing GP member then its worth the while to make a request.

probably already answered, but thread is 53 pages long.

just completed trial on 16th. all 12 stays have posted. temporary status set to end Aug 31. at what point should i expect the "congrats" email or notice? Also, when to expect the diamond card? would like to have before my vegas trip (to match mlife) Sept 11 but realize that probably won't happen.

I'm about to sign up for Diamond Trial offer as I have an upcoming trip that I want Diamond benefits on, so I see no downside in signing up. I did a trial last year and contrary to the reports stated many times in this thread, it is definitely no longer "once per lifetime". I just missed last year's trial because of some last minute changes in travel plans but this year I am not sure if I will make it at all.

So with that in mind does anyone have any good suggestions on somewhere for a really good mattress run? I am wondering what is the cheapest I could get to reach 12 nights pure mattress run? Have some stays planned for 2014 that could make Diamond worth keeping.
