Just got a Diamond status match sounds great.

I had my 2 nights anywhere in the world from the Chase CC sign up last year. Haven't used them and booked 2 nights at the Park Hyatt Dubai. Wanted to get the club lounge and breakfast ect. so with the rules just changing a couple days before for the 3k points for club level per stay to per night I looked into a status match. In 2 days I got it confirmed based on SPG Plat and didn't expect a couple things:

1. I get the 4 suite upgrade certs during my trial period.
2. If I qualify 12 nights in 60 days I get status until Feb 2015.
3. 1k points per night for first 6 nights.

I am excited as I will use one cert for the suite at Park Hyatt Dubai with club/breakfast etc. (I don't think I can use them on free nights can I?) This may motivate me to just book the cheapest Hyatt I can find in Chicago area during xmas for 12 days and allow family to use it.

I have 3 more nights this year to hit 75 nights with SPG which I want also. Hmmmmm decisions, decisions....

Overall I like Hyatt but bad news with the recent changes to the program and I don't have enough nights to spread between the two programs really.

Will they allow a status match 1x per year? Or is it once a lifetime?

Thanks.

Park Hyatt Dubai does not have a club lounge.

I don't think any reasonable/viable program offers status match every year. If you find such programs please let me know although I think they will die soon as a result. Giving out free nights, status comps, credit cards are key reasons for Hyatt's devaluation this week, many believe.

Once per lifetime. Whether that means account lifetime or personal lifetime is a little ambiguous I think, but it is intended to be personal lifetime.

Lots more info for you here:

You can do SPG plat challenge every year. So you are welcome for letting you know.

You are right about the PHD not having a CLUB lounge. The phone attendant said they had a lounge and in fact they do. It is a dining restaurant called The Lounge, but it isn't for diamond members or club floor members. So I guess I was half mislead.

Not quite - you can't do a SPG Plat challenge if you've ever been SPG Plat before (whether earned or through a challenge), which means that you can't do the scenario that IncyWincy was talking about, which I believe was repeating challenges every year to always maintain the top-tier status at the reduced challenge criteria.

You can always repeat the SPG Plat challenges until you're successful, but once you achieve Plat, that account will no longer accept Plat challenges. So, in fact it's once per lifetime (or at least once per lifetime of SPG account).

There are reports of HP members conducting Diamond Challenges more than once. The T&C is one offer trial per member, but since expiry dates are rolling, a new offer rolls out with a new expiry date generally. Two offers per year currently.

No mention of once per lifetime.

It is impossible to know what they intended to mean by "one trial per member per offer". But I'ver never seen a communication from HGP that would even barely pass 6th grade English, which is about average for North America.

This is not actually correct. If you were at one time platinum 5 or more years ago I believe (without challenge) you could continually challenge until you are successful. If you have been successful via a challenge then you can't repeat. Thus you could do it every year. When you are successful you will have your status for a year or even up to 21 months I believe if done in June of a year and expires Feb 2 years later. I was never insinuating you could be plat one year let it expire 21 months later then the next month do the challenge again.

2 colleagues who were plat 5-6 years ago did the challenge last year and both were successful and gained platinum again. I believe you can't be platinum for the last 5 years and haven't done a successful challenge previously.

I do have the same doubt, is it possible to choose a specific date? You should be able to request the start/end(60 days later)period, right?

Yes, I requested a specific date, but it was only 10 days or so after it would have started anyway, so I don't know how far in advance you could do it. I had a couple of reservations that would be just outside of the 60 day period and wanted to make sure that they would be included so that I was sure to complete the challenge.
