The biggest benefit was actually the check in line. Very long line for usual check on but platinum / diamond has separate area. Unfortunately, without diamond, I wouldn't qualify and actually, standing in line is something I'd prefer not to do.

This can be accomplished with a Hyatt credit card giving you platinum status for $75 a year and you get an anniversary night at up to cat 4 hotel.

I would definitely get one if the were available in UK. We have Hilton, Marriott, IHG, Starwood Credit cards but no Hyatt ( for some reason).

They already do this (criteria unpublished) for high spenders - my guess is over $20,0000 in a year - probably use base points as a proxy.

Applied this past Monday via e mail around 11am Pacific. Got response about 45 mins later, status updated next day (within 24 hours). 4 suite upgrade certificates already deposited and starting my mattress running and received two nice upgrades as well. Feels like this will become my secondary program to stick my loyalty to.

You just need to book a reservation with the DSU's by Feb 2015, but your actual dates of travel can extend as far out as the hotel properties allow reservations (usually close to a year).

Please note that once you book a DSU, and are past the expiration date, you cannot make changes to the reservation (other than adjusting the underlying room rate).

Diamond package

Not sure that I have seen this data point in here, so thought I would share...

I completed my challenge on 7/12, and received my Diamond card/welcome package in the mail on 7/28.

Laxsnaogg is correct - I think you can reduce the nights within the reservation after the expiration date however.

If you successfully complete the challenge, you'll get another set of 4 next March (2015).

If you don't complete, you'll obviously not get another set, just these 4 that expire 2/28/2015 (which IMO is overly generous on Hyatts part, they should be taken away at the end of the the challenge if challenge isn't completed).

Sorry if this may have been asked before but cant find the info. If I use my account to book cash+points bookings for others while doing the challenge, would that count towards completing the 12 night Diamond challenge requirement?

I'm planning a 6 night trip to Andaz Maui where would be needing 2 rooms all with points+cash, where I'd stay in one room and my parents in law in the other.
Or is it allowed for both rooms to be booked in my name only and then I'd be credited for all 12 units purchased?
