One other question...I do have a fair number of points which would entitle us to a suite upgrade for some, but not all of the nights in Aruba.

My question is...would they move us from a suite room to a regular room if we only have enough points for the suite upgrade for about half the stay.

Have other people been moved from a suite to a regular room during a stay if they elected not to pay the difference or do hotels typically leave you in the room that you are in?

I will certainly be prepared to change rooms...but was just curious if others have had this experience....

ddfr,

6000 points are needed for another 4 days and I recommend trying to get these in order to be 100% on the safe side. 2-3 stays at cheap properties combined with a G2 or G3 bonus should do the trick and get you 6k points.

Spinning this thought a bit further, Hyatt has a 10k for 5 nights promo at this point. I do not know where you are residing, but if you do the math and consider that a night at the Regency Aruba will cost you roughly $ 350 anyway, 5-6 nights at a local Hyatt ( with such a bonus ) at $ 60 will get you the points for one free night and Platinum status on top of it ( and more leverage in negotiations with the property )

Normally, many properties will not make you change rooms in the middle of a reservation, but if they are able to sell the suite regularly, we are talking about a different ball game.

May I ask, if you considered to become a Diamond member. Give a GPP customer service a call and see what they can do for you. Maybe they are able to offer you a challange ( x nights in x months ) or comp you from another prg.

Assuming that they offer you a Diamond challenge, ( e.g. 15 stays/nights in the last months of the year ) it could easily save you some money in the long run, especially since breakfast/Club access is included.

In any case, The Regency Aruba never had a glorious reputation for going out of their way for Diamond members, so I encourage you to earn all the necessary points and book months in advance, in other words, do not rely on the property too much.

@ FD---Thank you for all your help.

However, how do you figure it would only take an extra 6,000 points to stay the extra nights in a suite. The way I understand it costs 22,000 points for a regular room each night and since a suite upgrade is 50% extra points it would cost 33,000 points per night in a Suite.

Again, thank you again for all the help and guidance.

I was referring to the amount of points needed to get an upgrade from a paid regular room to a suite for up to 4 nights.

It is very possible they would ask you to change the room. For Diamonds, I know that they will not usually ask you to change the room, unless it has been sold or another Diamond has upgraded and needs that suite.

It is very possible, given Hyatt's excellent customer service, that a Platinum would be able to keep the suite for the full stay, provided that there are no diamonds that would otherwise need the suite or no paying customers for the suite.

In any event, you should be prepared to change rooms, as that would be a very likely outcome. Letting you keep the suite is however, certainly possible.
