This version of the Hyatt card (with its 2 free nights offer) has been discontinued as of June 29, 2017.

There is a new version.

See this thread
:

__________________________________________________ ___________________________

What are the benefits of the card?
  • 3 points/dollar spent at Hyatt
  • 2 points per dollar spent at restaurants, airfare, car rental
  • 1 point for all other charges
  • No foreign exchange fee
  • Annually, on renewal, one free night at up to a category 4 hotel and is valid for 12 months
When will I receive the sign up bonus?
Typically a day or two after the close of the billing cycle in which you reach spend threshold.
When do the signup points from this card offer expire?
If you have no activity on your Hyatt account for 24 months your points will expire.
Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?
See the wiki and related discussion in Applying for Chase Credit Cards, 2017 onward.
It's a Chase Card. Does that mean that if I have more than 5 new open lines of credit in 24 months, I will be automatically denied?
This card is not currently under the 5 cards in 24 months Chase application restriction.
It looks like the Hyatt website will let me use my anniversary category 1-4 cert for any property, including those above category 4. Is this for real?
No. Even if the system accepts your attempted reservation, the property will not honor the cert at check-in. Accept the fact that your cat 4 cert is just that.
Can I use my anniversary category 1-4 cert at a higher-category property with a cash co-pay? By paying the difference in points? By asking nicely?
No. No. No.
Can I use my annual free night cert for a suite or Club-level room, possibly with a cash or point copay?
Officially, no. But there's no harm in contacting an individual property directly to see what they're willing to do.
If I close my card account, do I lose any unused points or annual free-night certificate?
No. Unused points already in your Hyatt account as well as the annual free-night award remain available in your Hyatt account regardless of the status of your Chase card.

Questions related to the (now expired) 2 Free Night card offer:

When do the signup bonus free-night awards for this card expire?
The awards expire one year from the date of deposit (typically the date on which the required spend is met, which may fall in the middle of a billing cycle). All stays must be completed by the expiration date.
When I view my free-night awards, why is the button to start the redemption/booking process missing?
You no longer need to go through the My Awards page to book a free-night cert. Simply start the booking process as if requesting an award stay using points.
When I try to book a multiple-night award stay, why does the Hyatt website show availability for points redemptions but not for Free Night Awards?
You will need to redeem the free-night certs one at a time in separate single-night reservations if you want to do it online. For example, if you want to book the Park Hyatt Sydney for December 14-16, you will book the night of the 14th to 15th as one stay, and then repeat the process for the night of the 15th to 16th. Otherwise, call Hyatt to make the booking.
If I can't use my free-night award by the expiration date, can I exchange it for points or get the expiration extended?
According to the FT Hyatt GP Concierge, as of January 22, 2016, there are 2 options for compensation for the initial (all-category) Free Night Awards:
  • Platinum guests: Hyatt offers 10,000 points per Award if the Member has had 5 eligible stays or 15 eligible nights in the previous 12 months. The 10,000 points per award exchange can only be done after the award night has expired. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which required the award to be unexpired.) Members have up to 90 days beyond the expiration of the unused award night to exchange for points.
  • Diamond guests: Hyatt offers 20,000 points per Award if the Member has achieved Diamond status by achieving 25 stays or 50 nights or completing a trial tier offer within the last 12 months. The 20,000 points per award exchange can only be done after the award night has expired. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which required the award to be unexpired.) Members have up to 90 days beyond the expiration of the unused award night to exchange for points.
These policies will reportedly remain in effect after the March 1, 2017 transition from Hyatt Gold Passport to the new World of Hyatt program.

Anniversary Awards valid in Category 1-4 hotels are not eligible for extension. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which allowed a one-time 30-day extension.)
Can I use the sign-up free night cert for a suite or Club-level room, possibly with a cash or point copay?
Officially, no. But there's no harm in contacting an individual property directly to see what they're willing to do.
If I close my card account, do I lose any unused free-night certificates?
No. Unused free-night awards remain available in your Hyatt account regardless of the status of your Chase card.

Alcohol in Hyatt lounges in the US do come with purchasing the drink(s). Drinking them without buying them? That is rather uncommon in Hyatt's US lounges.

Agree it's still a net positive.
IMO, that appeared to be the only definite based on the survey. Doubt, it'll be less than $95 based on the examples.

Survey $125 fee:every $5k=2n credit, up to 30n ($75k calendar year)

- Spend 50k per year, get a 2nd free Category 1-4 night
- Free Club access on award stays

I think these are a net positive and I would probably re-consider my loyalty to Hyatt if they were to implemented (currently a Globalist with only 2 stays this year because of the WoH devaluation).

Also a re-designed card. Photos here:
http://imgur.com/a/WjSvG
I got survey and responded somewhat favorably on this option for $150 fee mainly for the $30k spend + 30n stay= Globalist; even though I'm already Globalist (but now have option to get Globalist without staying at Hyatt beyond 30n, and can stay at other chains); I also said I have Chase Sapphire Reserve and was still better than this option.

Then shown option 3 of 4 where they presented a (high) spend scenario for $125
- every $5k spend= 2n credit, up to 30n in calendar year (e.g.$75k cap)
- 1 club lounge access award for every $5k spend (assume $75k cap= 15 club access awards)
- 4 points per dollar on Hyatt hotels
- 2 points per dollar on restaurants, Lyft, parking, bridge tolls
- $25k spend get Explorist

On surface this seems appealing to get the potential stockpile of up to 15 extra club lounge access awards without any qualifying paid night, but this assumes $75k spend and not Globalist

Did you get a different survey?

I got a more detailed survey with many options, shown same initial choice $30k spend + 30n stay = Globalist

But given more scenarios based on my response that I may or may not increase Hyatt cc spend (because I have better Chase sapphire reserve and already Globalist )

The survey I received showed 5 or 6 different scenarios.

For me, the key would be if the Globalist status based on the spend/nights combo would include the Suite Upgrades. Clearly this is the key for Hyatt also as they have dissociated the Suite Upgrades from Globalist status.

They should have two cards. A basic one that is like the current one, and a Reserve or whatever they want to call it, with some of these other benefits.
The Globalist status is meaningless to probably at least half the people currently carrying this card.
I know I wouldn't pay twice as much for the card, w/o getting any real usable benefits, but that some people would gladly do so, because they spend that much/stay that much.
Give me the free anniversary night, and the suite upgrade good for an entire stay, and I would consider it. Want me to spend more on the card? Do like the Fairmont card did. Offer a free night at ANY property after hitting say, $10k spend requirement. (Fairmont was $12k, but card was less, and you got other freebies (food & such). And allow the suite upgrade to be used with that free night.

Great idea. It's hard to fit two different group of people with one card.

Agree. Fairmont card is the only card that I have 12k+ spending every year for last 4 years.

Are free nights ever available?

Got this card in late June before the bonus conversion to 40K points. Quickly met the minimum spend and thought to use the two nights for upcoming trip to Japan. No hotel seems to have availability for these certificates! Regency Kyoto available for points but not certificates.

Quickly checked Park Hyatt Zurich and Paris Vendome - same story. Played with the dates in Oct, Nov and Feb (hardly peak season months) - lots of night available for points but no 'free nights.'

Very disappointed. I wish I signed up for the 40K bonus - would have saved 40K Chase URs.

Anyone faced such constrained supply?

Seems like AA availability is generous compared to these certificates aka "junk bonds."

Yup, I'm guessing the attrition rate has been high due to the annual fee and category creep. People are not stupid. Not to mention that Chase CSR and JPM-R get equal or better UR earning so no reason for us to charge anything to this card.

Appreciate the summary! I received the same invite but was deemed "ineligible" (no doubt due to lack of current card use). I would have actually been a good target as I used to spend $$$$ for the 2x dining points, but $0 since I got CSR with 3x

The easiest change would be to copy the Chase IHG card and remove the Cat 1-4 restrictions. Also extend the redemption period for a year after renewal date, which effectively gives you 2 years to redeem the free night and makes it possible to combine them for a weekend stay. But of course that might actually cost Hyatt some revenue, so not an option

The only options that would cause me to reconsider my impending cancellation are:
  • 1 free suite upgrade to use annually
  • Free Club access on award stays

These both have > $75 in value to me and would also obviate the need for me to spend more to get Globalist status. The Cat 1-4 nights are almost useless for my leisure travel, with rare exceptions. And I would never charge $30k on this card when I get much better ROI from the CSR and JPM cards.

As I already have a Chase ex-Fairmont now-CSP Visa, which gives me the same 2x categories + flexibility on using the points, a $150 annual fee &or loss of the anniv. free night would be the end of the Hyatt Visa for me!
No offense, but lipstick on a pig is not a determinative factor for me when choosing credit cards. BTW, the CSR offers 3x points on spend for the same annual fee (after subtracting travel credits) @:-)

Have you been searching for one night at a time? If you search for two nights at a time, it won't show you free nights because you don't have a certificate for two free nights, you have two certificates for one free night each. This isn't always the problem, butvitvusually is. If there is points availability, then you can use the certs. You can call Hyatt and get them to book you in if there is points availability.

I just redeemed my 2 nights at Park Hyatt Vendome. I could not do it online for whatever reason, I had to call in and they booked it no problem. Each night had to be booked individually with each certificate but the phone agent said she linked the reservations so they know it's really one stay and to give me one room for the entire time. My stay is towards the end of January 2018.

If points booking is available the certs can be used, but the website can't book them right now so you need to call. Ran into same issue booking PH Tokyo last week.

Boraxo, I was responding to the survey page's proposals, both trivial (the physical look of the card) as well as substantive. Like you, I choose my credit cards for substantive benefits, not for looks.
