I recently stayed here for a few nights and was upgraded to a suite with a terrace overlooking the library. It was a nice room with way too many different doors into the bathroom. The blackout shade problem that kept me from staying here for many years appears to have been resolved, at least in the bedroom.
Service was decent although I continue to dislike the whole "host" concept which makes it all too easy for a poor host to ignore customers.
Based on this experience, I now think this hotel is acceptable although I will remain as a regular at the PH NY.

I had a mixed bag experience with the 5th Ave hosts. Some were extremely diligent. One helped me mail out some stuff using USPS that I left behind. Their concierge host was horrible about finding some shopping related items. Did the bare minimum (called and said none were available) and that was that.

Does anyone know if the Balcony Suite has a real door between bedroom and living room?

recent stay
Had a recent stay and was surprised at how bad the breakfast has gotten. All our hot entrees were warm and the cast iron pan was stone cold. The coffee was just warm. The taste was not much better - something seem to be missing.
The positive is with the new Glob breakfast, it allows you to get more (no more $ limit) when you have more than 2 guests.
During this stay, FD tried to upsell the guests (not only me) to pay for a suite upgrade. In fact it was pretty aggressive. Maybe they get a commission? At one point, the price was lower to see if I take the bait, I did not. Without its prime midtown location, I think WS Andaz is as good as the 5th.

Wow. I just finished a 6 night stay this week. Every breakfast was terrific. I had none of the issues described.

I've been coming here since it opened a few times a year and was the first time it was this bad - especially when is all 3 plates were just OK. But the aggressive up sell during checkin made me think the place is being run by amateurs and may have spread to the kitchen. Lets hope my one time experience was a fluke.

Stayed at the Andaz last weekend and was pleasantly surprised to find a Japanese TOTO toilet in my Splash Suite. The hotel shared with me that all suites are getting these and if Budget allow they might extend to other rooms.

Any recent reports? Particularly interested in service and breakfast quality in light of recent reports. We were here in January, and while there were issues, it was still a decent stay. Considering November options. Thanks!

We had a recent one night stay and had no complaints about the quality of breakfast. The new Globalist breakfast benefit staying with two kids was an improvement over the previous $75 threshold (before tax and gratuity). I realize this isn't the actual cost that the property incurs, but the breakfast charge of a little over $190 was removed in its entirety. That was for four entrees, juices and some coffee.
If the price is right then go for it. They want funny money for my October dates. $500+ and no way that's happening.
