Hyatt Web Checkin and E-Standby

Hi,

I am diamond....If you are on e-standby (actually in this case for a suite at $0 extra per night) and you use web-check in, will it upgrade you to the e-standby room if available?

Or do you have to actually check-in with the front desk for upgrades?

What is "E-standby" and how do you get to it?

It is usually offered to you when you book a reservation on-line -- typically more than 48 hrs before the reserved stay)! You don't actually know if you will get the 'upgrade' until you check-in to the hotel.

I have never tried the 'web check-in' -- so don't know how it affects the 'E-standby'

Okay, well I guess it makes sense I haven't seen it as I've only started Hyatt this year, status match, and have been staying at HP's and my upcoming Hyatt stay was booked on the phone w/ a suite upgrade.

Hyatt Web Checkin and E-Standby

Bump.

I did web check in and received my e-standby upgrade. However, the email did not indicate this at all. When I went to the front desk to get my keys the agent told me that it went through and I got the suite.

I selected e standby upgrades and reading instructions on the selections, it says the hotel will confirm at checkin. This would not be generally confirmed though email. I believe this allows the hotel to sell up until the point if checkin. Sending written confirmation locks the hotel in contractually.

I err towards checking in as soon as reasonably possible by web. It feels the room assignment may improve the earlier the checkin. Perhaps that improves the chance of upgrades compared to other members who have chosen e upgrades.

That doesn't really make much sense. I did check-in on the web, and then a short while later received an email that my room was assigned, with the room number. When I went to the desk to get the key, she told me my upgrade had "cleared." It was the same room number on the email. Why couldn't they have just told me in the email what type of room I was assigned?

No it doesn't make sense, and it would be nice that the hotel would inform prior to check-in whether the upgrade was cleared or not. Its good that the room# was assigned.. If you know the room sequence in the hotel (on the hotels I frequent, I know the columns and rows of the choice suites), you could tell if you are upgraded or not.

The Hyatt reservation system has limitations. Perhaps Hyatt can improve the process by sending a message automatically if an e upgrade has cleared.

I believe the eStandby upgrade is administered by a third party (Nor1) -- and that hotels manually make day-of-arrival decisions on the requests. The Web Checkin emails are presumably generated by a Hyatt corporate system. I doubt there is any tie-in between the two.

You're right. eStandby is a 3rd party software by Nor1.

Hotels do have to process each request one at a time, on the day of (or earlier if you're lucky).

If the hotel awards your upgrade a day or two early and preblocks you into the room, chances are when you do the webcheckin' it was already granted and waiting to be checked in generating a check-in confirmation e-mail from the PMS itself.

Well, it would still seem to me that it shouldn't be that onerous for Hyatt (or the local hotel) to either:

1) Send you an email if and when the local hotel manually processes the eStandby upgrade, or
2) Just put the room type you are assigned in the Web check-in email confirmations.

I mean, I could do #2 with a Vlookup in Excel for chrissake! :)

I booked an award stay and see that there is an option for a paid upgrade available to a better room. At the bottom of the page it says "Diamond and Platinum Hyatt Gold Passport members are eligible for a complimentary upgrade, based on program guidelines, if available at check-in."

So does that mean as a Diamond if I select one of the paid upgrade options, the fee will be waived? Or does it mean that if I select it, I will still be charged? But if I don't select anything I would have had the opportunity for an free upgrade at check in?
