Aruba - Hyatt vs Westin

I am planning a vacation to Aruba with my wife. We are either staying at the Hyatt or Westin. I pretty much have the same status with both programs, so I am looking for unbiased opinions about the merits of each proprty.

I would say the Hyatt... have stayed at both. There is an extensive thread on the Hyatt Aruba to help with more indepth info.

Hyatt by far.

I have stayed at both. The Hyatt is a beautiful property with more choices of amenities. The Westin is a bit run down relative to the Hyatt. If you are Diamond it makes the Hyatt an easier choice as you will also have lounge access...

+1, I stayed at both the Hyatt and the Westin in February. The Hyatt was much nicer. The Westin was run down and needs an update. The elevators were horrible. They were so slow that there was always a huge line and everyone crowding in. My wife and I resorted to taking the stairs, which were very dark, dirty and dingy but at least we avoided a 10 min elevator ride.

wasn't the Westin originally the Americana that was vacant for several years? If so I guess SPG didn't do too much when they took it over given the prior comments of it being somewhat rundown.

The Westin may have been the Americana...not sure. It was most recently the Wyndham and for a short time after that the Aruba Resort, Casino and Spa. I think that I heard that it was a hilton at one time??

I wouldn't say that the Westin is rundown... it has been recently renovated....but it sure is not as nice as the Hyatt.

As I posted IIRC in the thread in Renard#2's link, the Westin is so nice, but the Hyatt is a few steps above it. The only reason I moved from the Hyatt to the Westin last year is because I ran out of GP points & FFN, while the Westin had an All-Inclisive promo rate = the Hyatt's room-only rate.
