nice while it lasted!

Diamond status expired 12/31/09. Had already decided to heavily book January and take some mileage runs to cement status til 2/12. Unfortunately, that meant I would not get Diamond bonuses but the free nights were too hard to pass up. Just took me longer than it should to decide to do this - but then again, I get an extra year of status by doing it in January.

Lo and behold, January 1 comes and I'm still Diamond. And for the first 6 stays, I got the benefits. Signed on yesterday and it changed to Platinum.

I figured that maybe they had extended the status because some computer looked at my outstanding reservations. Clearly, I was wrong - but a the title says, it was nice while it lasted.

She was probably upgraded from Plat under the "free" Plat / Diam upgrade promotion.

I am curious, under normal circumstances, Hyatt elite status usually expire at the end of February of each year (in my case, February 2011). Did you get Diamond status from some sort of promotion? If that's the case, that would explain why your status expired early.

If you have the time and money, you can still fast track to Diamond. Until end of this month, all stay will count double, so assuming you stay at a different Hyatt hotel everyday until the end of this month, you can get 22 stays and all you need is another 3 stays in the next 11 months to achieve Diamond. I know it's crazy, but if you really want the Diamond status that bad, then that's one way to get it.

Plus that would get you 5 free nights at any Hyatt worldwide!

I will tell you, this made sense for me. I dropped Marriott for Hyatt this year and no looking back. I am at 6 stays for the month, including 1-2 mattress run nights. I should have another 5-6 stays before the end of the month.

I look at the 30+ nights I put to Marriott and Hilton to keep my platinum and diamond and am KICKING myself. I will have GP diamond within the next 2-3 weeks, but in my experience thus far, it exceeds MR and HH and sometimes, even my SPG.

Yes, I got the Diamond status in a promotion that hit me, fortunately, right before our trip to Paris and our stay at the Park Hyatt. Free breakfast and internet totaled over $170 per night! That's why it expired 12/31.

At this point, I already have 18 stays on 9 nights and will finish requalifying on January 30th. I'm also Starwood Platinum but the difference between possible versus guaranteed upgrades
