Hyatt Regency Greenville REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

I suppose this can serve as a master thread for the property since I could not find one and mods if you could attach it to the review thread that would be great. Does anyone have any experience here? Have a one night stay coming up and used a Diamond Suite Upgrade certificate (still have three to burn) and was confirmed into a Main Street King. The hotel claims that this is a suite but the online description and the Nor1 Upgrade picture and description seem to suggest otherwise.

The Deluxe King is described by Nor1 as being the standard upgrade for Diamonds ($0 extra per night) and listed as

Deluxe King, 410 sq. ft

https://www.nor1upgrades.com/nor1ima...g/00010215.jpg

* Room features added space with a stylish living area with comfortable sleeper sofa, over-stuffed arm chairs, 32 inch LCD television, a generous work area with enhanced lighting, and iHome Stereo with iPod dock.

The Main Street King is listed at $39 extra per night and listed as

Main Street King, 425 sq. ft.

https://www.nor1upgrades.com/nor1ima...g/00010211.jpg

* Experience luxury in an oversized, stylishly modern room featuring 36 feet of soaring windows that provide striking views of the city’s dramatic skyline.
* Added touches include a generous work area with enhanced lighting, iHome Stereo with iPod dock, Wi-Fi high-speed Internet access (fee), dual phone lines and voicemail and easy video checkout.

Then comes the rooms listed as actual suites on the website with the Panorama Suite extra $49/night)

Panorama Suite, 510 sq. ft.

https://www.nor1upgrades.com/nor1ima...g/00010220.jpg

* Enjoy a spacious suite parlor (with separate king bedroom) with wet bar and refrigerator with window views on either side.
* Behold the drama of the evening skyline and the misty Blue Ridge Mountain panorama from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
* Slumber in comfort in a separate bedroom offering an additional 32 inch LCD television.

And the One Bedroom Atrium Suite (extra $349 per night)

One Bedroom Atrium Suite, 950 sq. ft.

https://www.nor1upgrades.com/nor1ima...g/00010221.jpg

* When available, add on the connecting Atrium Parlor to your currently booked room for extra space and comfort.
* Enjoy stylish separate living area with dining/meeting space for six, contemporary sleeper sofa, 32 inch LCD television, wet bar, microwave and refrigerator.

Obviously I don't expect to be upgraded to an Atrium Suite, but thought I would be placed in a Panorama Suite since it is designated as a suite and the Main Street King seems to be just a slightly oversized room. Has anyone stayed in a Main Street King and can confirm otherwise? I called Customer Service who in turn called the hotel who claimed that it was a suite.

I've never stayed there - but would from the descriptions agree with you that the Main Street King is not a suite but the Panorama Suite is the entry suite.

I will attach this thread to the Index / Review Sticky.

Please post your review of the property after the stay :)

Ironically, I was there 2 days ago, and looked for a review here, and just signed in to do one. Currently only a plat here. The hotel address is main street, but that is the back of the hotel. Self parking is $6 and easy.

I had flight issues and needed to reschedule a meeting I had planned. I asked if there was a corner room to meet with my team in the room, good and bad

Bad, no corner, gave me a regular room. Room a little worn, cant sit on commode with Bathroom door open, poor maintenance of the bathroom. Comfy bed, all feather pillows, lots of outlets.

Good, they allowed me to use a panorama suite for free for 2 hours for the meeting. Large room, connects to sleeping room on both ends. Living area with sofa setup, 48" plasma, dining table and a wet bar with Refrigerator and microwave.

Great walking distance on Main street for meal

Vintage Hyatt atrium-style property

One of the classic early-mid atrium hotels, perfect location to explore the beautiful downtown area, a nice pedestrian zone etc.

Standard upgrade for Diamond members used to be to a corner-end room. If you take a look at the shape of the hotel, you can see that the hotel has two parts that look completely different. The part with the pointed end has some end suites that you can see on picture 8 of the hotel slide show, the other part with the regular '90 degree end' has corner rooms that are slighly more spacious, have a new chair by the window overlooking the city and a graveyard, but a small bathroom. I guess ( really just guessing ) that you receive a king junior suite ( shown on picture 7 of the slide show ) which is a big room with a bed partly seperated, something you could call a parlor and a sitting area. I always thought that it would be just a bigger room, but if they call it a junior suite it would be okay judging from the size and shape..., however if those corner rooms are taken, you could one for free anyway.

Thanks for the reviews :) though the question still remains if a Main Street King can truly be considered a suite or if this hotel is trying to skirt the Diamond Suite Upgrade certificate. The room you mentioned FD1971 is the same room that is shown as the standard Diamond upgrade on the Nor1 upgrade page so your description seems accurate with what this hotel is still practicing. If that is the case though, then at only 15 square foot more than the Deluxe Room, I would have to say that the Main Street King room is definitely not a suite by any definition of the word, and should be included in the standard Diamond upgrade pool since the only real difference seems to be that the Main Street King has a wall of windows where as the Deluxe King room does not.

I would definitely call the hotel to get more specific information, they normally treat Diamond's very well, so I doubt that they would not play by the rules or play cheap, although it seems it is the case, 15 sqft. more for a suite upgrade is a bad deal, even on the last day of February for a one night stay...good luck and give us an update, if you find the time ^

I will be staying here tomorrow night so will post an update and review on this property. The staff has been very pleasant to deal with so far, though they still claim that the Main Street King is a suite. Found this on the Virtual Tour part of the website and still would not consider it to be a suite, but they may come through tomorrow and bump the reservation up to a Panorama Suite.

Stayed at this property for one night on December 27, 2009 on a $77 rate using a suite upgrade certificate and points for a second room. As noted above, there was some confusion as to the type of room the certificate would be confirmed into, but upon arrival, found that the room had already been bumped up to a Panorama Suite. Check-in was quick and painless with an excellent desk clerk (David). Diamond amenities were extended to both rooms, though I was proactively (^) told that they were regrettably unable to upgrade the second room as an upgrade was not available.

Rooms assigned were both on the fourth floor (402 and 406) and semi-connecting. The Panorama suite (X02) sits with another king room (X06) in a separate hallway at the end of one of the corridors, however, the outer door is just a standard industrial swing door that is kept open, and the two rooms do not connect.

The standard king room was small, but well appointed though with a bit of a strange layout with the bathroom to the left when you enter the room and a small hallway leading around the closet to the bed. Nice-sized flat screen television, work desk, and two chairs take up the majority of the space in these rooms though they are efficiently layed out. At least in this wing of the hotel, there are two large windows looking out over Downtown. Furnishings and carpeting are well kept and in good shape, though have a slightly dated look and feel to them. The bathroom is quite small (though not tiny) with the door barely clearing the toilet and quite dated.

The Panorama Suite has a similar king room attached to the living room portion, and this is a true suite with one access door instead of a room connected to a parlor with a connector door. While one of the smaller suites I have been in, it is nicely appointed and laid out though suffers the same dated feel as the standard rooms. In the very back of the suite is a four chair dining table, though the positioning is a bit awkward as one chair is pushed up almost completely against a window. There is also a sleeper sofa and a sitting chair with a wetbar area (though the refrigerator is in the bedroom) and nicely-sized flat screen television. Floor to ceiling windows line the entire right side of the sitting area of the sleep and large picture windows line the left side allowing views out both sides of Downtown Greenville and the foothills. The bathroom is similar to the one found in the standard room but a tad bit larger.

The property has an Iphone app for ordering room service and ordering extra amenities. Used the app to order extra soaps and shampoos for both rooms and received both orders within five minutes. Staffing is definitely a strong point at this property as every person we came in contact with were eager and willing to help and extremely friendly (though I get the feeling this may be Greenville, which was very friendly as a whole).

Ate dinner at Commons Bar and Grille using a $25 coupon from restaurant.com. Food was excellent though similarly priced to most hotels. Happy hour special was $2 draft beer.

Also ate breakfast at Provencia. Assumedly due to low occupancy, the buffet was not being offered, but ordered off the menu for two and as a Diamond it never showed up on the bill (well except for a random $2.58 charge supposedly for a tip overage).

Internet is T-Mobile Wireless, but unlike other properties I have been to, instead of having to purchase a day pass and have it taken off of your bill, the system recognizes when you are an elite and does not charge you at all.

Parking is $6/night self and $15/night valet parking in an attached garaged. If you self park, be sure to park on or near the 3rd floor as it has a direct walkway into the Hyatt (unless you are arriving after 9pm at which that entrance is locked and you must enter through the lobby level anyways). If you are there on a weekend, there is free parking in the Richardson Street garage two blocks away. Continue past the Hyatt, turn left at the second light onto Richardson, and the garage will be on the left immediately past the next light.

Location is excellent, right in Downtown Greenville on Main Street with a plethora of shops, restaurants, and bars a short walk away. It is six blocks from Falls Park on the Reedy, and about eight blocks from Historic West End.

As an aspiring entrepreneur in the industry myself, I have high expectations of the hotels I stay at and rarely leave completely satisfied. That said, I had absolutely no complaints about this property whatsoever.

Will try to upload a few pics soon.

It sounds to me as if they gave you an Atrium Suite to hold your meeting as the Panorama Suite only has the one bedroom (not a connector) and did not seem quite large enough to hold a meeting.

I am here again tonight and managed to score an upgrade to an Atrium Suite. Will post a full review with pictures later, but the suite is easily the size of three normal rooms at this property. Will also try to get some better Panorama Suite pictures up later from my most recent trip. So far I am 2/2 on suite upgrades at this property in 2010 both on free nights.

Stayed over for one night April 30-May 1. All in all, a reasonable stay. Self-parking was easy and cheap ($5 for the night). The front desk was very friendly, recognized my lowly Platinum status, and made sure I knew about having free internet access. Needed a double room and was upgraded to a business room (if really an upgrade -- not sure). Room was comfortable. My only argument against the hotel is that it is an older property and feels like it (low ceilings, tiny bathroom, etc.). But worked fine for a cheap, last minute stay.

For what it is worth, all of the action continues to move down Main Street, farther away from the Hyatt. It is still an easy and pleasant walk. Had some very good drinks at High Cotton, and then a spectacular dinner at American Grocery (highly recommend).

Just had an issue trying to book a Saturday night only using points. Website would let me book Fri & Sat using points no problem, but for Sat. only it would not let me. I had to call into HGP to get the one night only booked, which they took care of for me. Bit annoying that the hotel (and/or) website would "block" my efforts so to speak...

musikdude May 25, 2013 2:48 pm

Here now on a one night award stay. At only 5k points and rates averaging $199 plus tax, I think that is a great use of points.

Was able to check in at noon, which was awesome. Only one front desk agent though, so I had to wait about 10 minutes. She was very nice and quick once I got to front of the line.

Took the diamond amenity of 2 Ketel One's with mixers plus a fruit & cheese plate. Was delivered on time and was a very nice spread. 4 types of fruit. 2 types of cheese with crackers. Full bucket of ice. Nice presentation!!

Was given room on a high floor but it is definitely not the "best non-suite room available", so that is a disappointment. You can book a nicer room online right now but I don't feel like moaning about it (and have to move my stuff). Room is more than fine for just one night. Internet speed is good.

Have to leave before breakfast starts so I can't review that.

Hotel is in great area- very walkable and the main street + park/river area is lively and cool!!

Any recent updates for Globalists? I'm visiting the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg. Thanks.
