How do you use these on prepaid Hyatt.com rates? Do you just give it to the hotel and they refund the GC portion back to your credit card?

I don't believe you can:

Not valid for casino charges, deposit or payment for group/meeting/catering functions, advance purchased packages or at concessions within the hotel not owned or operated by Hyatt

Wow, I missed that!
So not much if a deal here at all it seems.

You lose the 3% AMEX discount and you can't use it on Hyatt.com rates.

I'm planning on doing the same thing... Does anyone have experience using these Hyatt gift checks and not being present at check-out? Thanks!

If paid for business stays, these cards would not be processed any other way than regular cards presumably.
Thanks for the item #. I will check Costco Schaumburg later to see if they have these. I don't think I saw them last week I was there.

I've done three MR's over the past few days (all on pre-paid rates) and the front desk had no problem applying the cert when I checked in and then checking me out the following morning automatically.

I suspect others will have no issue applying them at check-in.

Did they already charge your credit card for the prepaid rate? If yes, did you get the refund on your credit card yet?

When booking a prepaid rate, some hotels don't actually charge your credit card at the time of booking. Instead they complete the credit card transaction when you check out.

Some do and some don't. In my experience though most do.
Getting a refund to a prepaid rate will mean getting a manager override, which is definitely a YMMV situation with the GC's.

It may also be a timing issue. I booked a prepaid rate this Saturday and went to the hotel, when I tried to check in using a different card the machine would not let me to but the agent corrected that.

I wonder if one would be able to use these certificates on mattress runs and pay with them at the check-in. I do not intend to drive to the burbs just to check out on a 50$ stay.

In my case the rates was not immediately charged to the CC and the front desk adjusted the room bill to reflect the GC (basically it shows up as a $50 credit.) The remainder was then charged to my CC.

Don't know what would happen if a hotel charged the rate in advance.

Applying the cert at check-in has not been an issue for me at the HP or SS.

Yes. Just yesterday I checked out with GC that resulted in a credit to go back to my cc. I had a couple more earlier this year.
You do need to keep an eye on cc refunds and sometimes follow up with the hotel accounting folks.

Sure enough.

Looking at costco.com for the Austin warehouse near me,
the 485271 item was indeed in the "new items" list under Sports.

I called the store to check, the rep immediately
confirmed they have them in stock here.

I then asked if they were returnable, she said YES,
adding "but only at Costco."

Very interesting. @:-)

? on using gift check

From the Hyatt T & C (https://www.certificates.hyatt.com/T...ardsCerts.aspx) I see the following:

No credit or change will be given on unused portion of certificate unless required by law.

I take this to mean if I use a $100 gift check for an $89 dollar room I will not get change back but also I will not be able to use the remaining $11 on a subsequent stay.

Does anyone read this different or have experience with this?

That's true - but remember, you are buying $50 checks, so you would use 1 check and put the rest on your credit card. These checks are 8 1/2" x 11" sheets of paper. They are not gift cards that you carry in your wallet. They must be used in their entirety at one time, as there is no way to give you any residual value.
