5000GP - 5000 Gold Passport points selected hotels (CA/WA, USA) - thru 12/30/10

Just got an e mail about this for stays in CA until Dec seems to say for a 2 night consecutive stay you get 5000 points , does this mean wth the current 5 nights = 10000pts if you have a 2 night consecutive stay in those 5 nights somewhere you end up with 15000 points?
Confused

Yes these offers are often stackable.

However, if you are thinking of this promo - http://goldpassport.hyatt.com/gp/en/...entId=90021446 it has expired.

According to the Terms & Conditions (link below) you must request Offer Code 5000GP at the time of reservation.

Yeah - there seems to be limited available rooms with this deal, so you need to book a room with this code available and can't add it later without rebooking. However, the rates seem to come up about the same (or better) than AAA rates with this code and it doesn't seem to affect cancellation rules (mine were all still 24 hours).

Really is an amazing deal assuming it's stackable - I'd almost rather have all these points then FFN when you add them all in. I have a two night stay in Hyatt Irvine for $100 per night where I'll get almost 16,500 points! (5,000 for 5000GP, 1,000 for 1W, 2,500 for DN, 2,000 for G2, 4,000 for 10K, and 2,000 for base points/diamond bonus/Hyatt Credit Card points). When you factor in tax, works out to $0.0135 per point. And I don't have to Hyatt hop every night!

I was under the assumption that the 10K promo awards points AFTER the 5 night requirement was met. Is that not true or are you just breaking down the numbers?

Can a moderator edit the subject of this thread to read selected hotels in CA and Pacific Northwest?

+1 on carefully reading terms and conditions -- they require that a promo-specific rate be selected and that earning points be selected. This could be a decent deal; or it could be a wash. For example, I am considering a 2-night stay at the Grand Hyatt Seattle this coming weekend. I actually already have reservations that are at a significantly better rate than any rates currently available, so I'm going to stick with my existing reservation that won't qualify for this new 5000GP promo. But here's how I would think about it, for the OP's benefit.

The current AAA discount rate is $175.20/night; the current "Hgp Fall 5k Rate Offer Code: 5000GP" rate is $186.15/night. So somebody choosing to reserve now could pay $21.90 additional (pre-tax) total for the 2 nights to get the bonus 5,000 GP points, which sounds pretty good. BUT, the guest would have to select earning points and not miles for the stay. For me, as a Diamond member, I'd probably earn about 3,000 base GP points (7.5 points per dollar on about four hundred dollars of qualifying spend). So the sub-total GP points haul would be 3,000 + 5,000 = 8,000 points. But choosing to earn points instead of miles means giving up 500 base AA AAdvantage miles, 2,500 bonus AA miles, and maybe another 1,000 bonus AA miles (depending on whether the 30KAA promo [2,500 bonus miles per stay] stacks with the MULT0 promo [1,000 bonus miles per stay subject to minimum of 3 stays in qualifying period]). So you would be comparing spending about $25 extra (with taxes) and earning 8,000 GP points, or spending $0 extra and earning 4,000 AA miles. This scenario is pretty much a wash for my valuation of GP points and AA miles.

Note that the "Great 10K" promotion didn't need to enter into the decision making process here; the 2 nights would count toward that promotion either way. Similarly, the fact that a Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond member can choose between a food & beverage check-in amenity or 1,000 GP amenity points when checking into a Hyatt Regency doesn't have to enter into the decision making process, because that's available regardless of which of the two rates being considered above is selected.

So the key here is to carefully enumerate the pros and cons of your decision, and figure out what benefits and promotions are independent of the decision so that they can set aside in the comparison.

You're absolutely right - I was just breaking out the value of 2 out of the 5 nights, so if I was only staying these two nights this quarter, I would not get those 4K worth of points. But since I'm going to have 30+ 10K promo nights this quarter, I just personally look at it as a 2K per night extra bonus. I just need to make sure my total nights for the 10K earning period ends up a number ending in 5 or 0.

Assuming this is stackable, don't forget G bonuses in your calculation too. Grand Hyatt Seattle has a G3 weekend bonus bonus so that's an extra 1,500 points you'd get if you select points vs. miles.

That said, you're right that this promo doesn't make sense in all cases - I have other reservations where the price has doubled since making them so it's not worth paying $100+ more per night for this bonus to cancel and rebook.

However, I was surprised to see at least for several so cal Hyatt's that the 5000GP rate is less than the AAA rate.

just checked the difference between my corp rate and this promotion rate at

hyatt regency irvine: 146 vs 214
hyatt regency newport beach: 129 vs 169

a little too high... would be all over it if the price was right

Pardon my ignorance but what are 1W & DN? Many Thanks - I am at Irvine for 2 nights this weekend. Was planning to use my BBCK10 voucher but this is far better value.

1W is the diamond amenity... I am curious about DN myself as well! Assuming it could be due to closed RC on weekends? Also, how are you getting the 100/night rate? I was quoted 214!

Edit: Speaking of Irvine, if any of you are interested in the following offer: shoot me a PM and I can give you more info... it is specific to that property.

It is with great excitement that I have the pleasure of announcing a Platinum & Diamond trial tier offer! I can immediately take you to Platinum status and also fast track you to Diamond status. To maintain status until February 2012, guests registered with me must have the following requirements:

-Within 60 days, guests must stay 6 nights for Platinum and 12 nights for Diamond status.
-You will also receive 1000 bonus GP points on your first 6 nights - maximum of 6000 GP points awarded.

The $100 rate is available 10/15 to 10/18 (actually it's $101.15 to be exact) and is less than the AAA rate for the same period, which is $107.10 per night. Should come up that rate if you use the 5000GP offer code. Irvine tends to have rates closer to $100 per night Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays and then rates closer to $200 per night during the week (although there are exceptions to both).

DN is the 2,500 point bonus diamonds get when the regency club is closed any part of your stay. Hyatt Regency Irvine's Regency club is always closed Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night, so if you are a diamond you get 2,500 if you stay any of those nights. You still get breakfast in the restaurant, but since there are no evening snacks in the regency club, DN is meant to make it up to diamonds.

I think there is another thread about the Hyatts with regularly closed Regency Clubs in case you want to find more Hyatts with the DN bonus available.
