You can't, expedia wont recognize "+" sign in the emails.

You can also put .s in Gmail account names

and they will work. So, w.flanagan is the same as wflanagan is the same as wflanaga.n. They all work on Gmail.

So I'm guessing this is the deal that is generating the Expedia codes?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onlin...ervations.html

But it sounds like the sponsors aren't getting THEIR vouchers. Is that true, or is there another deal?

Just like everyone else, I havent got any yet, but that's alright. I take it as a service to fellow FTers to help each other save money. Don't take much effort to do it anyway. Keep those PMs coming in, whoever wants 20 GBP Expedia codes.

Wondering whether we can break the 20GBP/40GBP discounts into another thread...

Sounds like the 20 GBP discounts which Rodi started offering are great.
I hope you've gotten lots of 40 GBP discounts.

60 GBP for two people is awesome.

I asked for one 20 GBP discount for a friend, but she is still deciding whether she wants to use it.

...but I'm worried that other possible good offers for May 2009 may get swamped in this thread. Can we start another conga-type thread for the discounts? Also, has anyone gotten the 20 Euro / 40 Euro discounts to work?

Yikes! I take a week off to mileage/mattress run and this thread spins off in a new direction. Your thread-master could use 3 codes. Please and thanks.

I, too, feel a strange call to service with this one and invite PMs (include an e-mail address...can be a "junk" e-mail as long as you can receive) and will gladly get a code sent out to you .

The e-mail with the code also has the handy-dandy link as well as the full scoop on the T&Cs.

The great thing about this deal and the part that might not last is there's no minimum purchase on the 20-pound code (which works out to about US $30.40). So if you find a $30.40 hotel for one night you can apply the voucher and pay only about 1 to 1.5 pounds booking fee. U.S. addresses and U.S. credit cards work fine; you don't have to be in the UK.

It also stacks with "second night free" offers, so you can get TWO nights at a place like the Golden Gate in Las Vegas for just the 1-pound booking fee. Such a deal.

In places like LAS with a number of choices under 20 pounds, though, I noticed that if you have a multi-night booking it'll only deduct the cost of one night, maximum. So if the room cost is 13 pounds and you book 2 nights, you save only 13 pounds rather than 20. So it's better to max out the value and aim for a 20-pound room or higher. Most cities have only those.

Would expect you could get options close to $0 in LAS, RNO, maybe MCO and overseas in places like Thailand. Also works well for 1-night bookings just about anywhere. The validity period through the end of the year is also a big plus.

All of which is great reason to PM ME for your very own! Ride this horse while u can.

My referrals are reporting issues with their codes in the Expedia email -
"Code is invalid" or "We're sorry, but our records show that this voucher has already been used".

Thats £80 saved... =)

Had to get creative, it appears once you use a credit card for a booking, you cannot use it again or you get the "the voucher has been used" message.

Clearing cookies doesnt work
Wasn't there another Expedia-related promo a few months back where they had some kind of tracking mechanism that wasn't cookie-related? I forget if that one was resolved, and how?

yes there was, it was a $20 coupon offered as compensation for the time expedia crashed.
It wasnt resolved, you had to use a new account and a different credit card as well

btw, isnt it time this is split from the general promo thread?

Yeah, I haven't done a lot of these yet, but that happened to me when I used the same credit card twice. I wasn't sure if that's why it was declined, but when I replaced cards, it worked.

I presume virtual numbers from Citi will work, too? My recollection is that AMEX doesn't offer changable numbers? It's not a lot of money, but I hate giving Citi 3% commission for foreign transactions.

Correct and correct. Bank of America's website also offers this, called "Shop Safe".

You're enjoying a £20 discount, let Citi have their 3%... it's not like Amex don't charge you anything; they take their 2%.

Well, I got the automated call from the credit card company today about "suspicious charges". Checked the pending transactions and saw a $1.00 authorization, a charge not much over $1 declined, and a charge for a few cents more than that approved. All in the same minute or so. Looks like it went through OK but got flagged for the automated calls. I s'pose cross-border online transactions can do that with some banks.

And I see that AMEX just raised there foreign transaction fee to 2.7%, so Citi isn't really much more.

I've got a credit union card (USAA) that still seems to be 1%. I haven't bothered much with it, but I think I can sign up for a "points" program with them. I guess I'll need to look into it, as I do travel overseas quite a bit. I will willing to pay AMEX 2% because of the SPG "kickback" but it's hard to justify more than that. It's now almost "real money" over the course of a year.
