Check wotif.com for possible deals w/in 28 days of your stay dates. Often vary good values thru them and this might help ID the properties involved in the above.

If someone does, particularly Sydney, which hotels are they?

Ok, I booked a couple of stays at the $1+$3.85 booking rate in Oct in Brisbane and Gold Coast. See this page on lastminute.com.au

NB, the above codes only show up when you highlight next to the stars.

LEX 1665 - (Secret 4.5* $1) Royal on the Park Brisbane - Cnr Alice & Albert Streets, Brisbane, Queensland
LEX 1668 - (Secret 4.5* $1) Holiday Inn Surfers Paradise - 22 View Ave, Surfers Paradise, Queensland

Hope I can get Priority Club points at Holiday Inn Surfers.

$1 rates show up at random times between 2pm and 4pm AEST. Yesterday's $1 rates were only available to those who subscribe to the newsletter. There is a link to this page on right of lastminute.com.au.

Most of the rates are for the next week or two. And only available for one night at a "secret" hotel.

They went in about 2-3 minutes. Same two hotels mentioned above, and another Melbourne one on 8th Oct 07, I think.

Maybe something extra will pop up in the next hour or two, maybe not.

Like every other $1 sale, the webservers get overloaded, to the point where getting the transaction to go through can be frustrating. I did manage to book two $1 hotels yesterday, but I suspect that it was because not as many people were hammering the site.

Ctrl+F5 / Ctrl+Refresh is your friend, when the servers go down.

lastminute.com.au is run by the same guys who run travel.com.au ...

See their customer support .

molasis also got a $4.85 rate, according to this post.

I've never seen anything AMAZING on wotif.com.au that you couldn't get on other sites, though. I think they're so popular because they were the first on the market.

These sort of sales that jetstar, tiger, etc do always overload the servers...

Yeah I did get a night at a recently refurbished Holiday Inn at Surfers Paradise. Wasn't difficult really. Kept refreshing the page, didn't try to go for the most popular property, got through first time. $180/night room for $4.85 is hard to argue with. Especially when they give you a nice upgrade because I have status with that chain.
