Has anyone stayed at this rate yet?
I just booked airfare and hope I don't regret this!
Yes - Octopus does indeed only send names shortly before. I expect this to work out just fine....

Haven't been yet, but am booked July 2-14.
Recent repeated riots in downtown CAI have me thinking twice,
and I like to think I don't get discouraged easily.
Also, it looks like $300+ to get to CAI from LCA.
I thought there would be regular ferries, but not.
It sure seems like a fine deal, though,
hard to throw away......

I will be checking in tonight, for next 3 weeks.
Leaving LCA now for Cairo, $260 all in return on CY
...a follow up note on arrival experience:
I e-mailed the Sofitel requesting hotel car transfer,
and it seemed really worth the $18 or so,
even if that is double what you might pay
on a self-negotiated cab ride.
a nice man in coat and tie was holding up a sign with my name,
took my $15 for visa and whisked me through the whole process,
both immigration and customs guys just waved us through,
I think I was the first out of the airport of the whole planeload.
He transferred me to a driver with car,
was at the hotel and checked in within 30 minutes.
Hotel (and breakfast) is great, this is going to be just fine !

Thank you for this report! It puts my mind at ease as my trip approaches.
Did you by any chance see an ATM in the airport, or is there one in the hotel? Do I need to change money or will ATM card when I arrive?

I remember seeing one at the airport. I had no issues using my ATM card in Egypt - most machines accepted it without a problem.

I was in the Taxi before I remembered !!
Fortunately, there is a nice ATM machine inside the hotel,
at the REAR exit, i.e. opposite Nile River front entrance,
just before the metal detector and the tourist police guarding the entrance.
Even without that, if you walk in almost any direction,
the only thing you will find MORE of than internet cafes is ATM's.
Everything here is EASY. Lovin it.

The one I cancelled went straight back to CC
less one night $8.50 cancel fee. Octopus is good. ^ ^
