Best practices for maximizing points when booking hotels

I am currently averaging around 60 hotel stays (typically only one night per stay) across the United States. I am trying to determine which mileage bonus program is the best bang for my buck when booking hotels.

A couple assumptions up front:
- Typically stay in 4 or 5 star hotels ($250-$500/nt range typically)
- Very flexible on where (and what brand) can stay at for business
- Fly exclusively (or when can) via United to maintain 1K status
- Have not experienced much benefit from brand loyalty outside of existing partnership programs on case by case basis (e.g. booking Amex Platinum/FHR when want those benefits; 1K on United, so automatic Gold at SPG/Marriott)

Lately I have been booking via Hotels.com for the ease of use and 10% coupon clip after 10 stays. Prior to that just booked exclusively on hotel branded site (Marriott, Hyatt, etc.). Very rarely experienced a 'bump' in service or upgrades/experience given I bounce from chain to chain and never reach the real elite level tiers.

Recently came across RocketMiles, etc. and wondering if that is a better solution. In looking at a few properties in NYC, I can earn 2,500 to 10,000 Singapore Kris flyer miles per night. Can book a Kris award JFK-FRA for 65,000 miles (typically a $3,500 ticket). In theory, that looks like a much better redemption value than the hotels.com equivalent.

Am I missing something? Given my preferences is there a better solution that I should take a look at?

I think I place the most value in International business or first rewards on higher quality, non-US carriers (Singapore, Emirates, Etihad, etc.).

Thanks for your thoughts.
