Due to the collapsing value of the Rand, I am sure that there are lots of hotel "deals" available in South Africa at the moment.

And probably about to get even better!

Yeah, South Africa represents extraordinary value right now. And since the future of South Africa is uncertain (let's face it -- it's a "weird" country), there is both political risk AND currency risk in the future. So go now.

I'd note that Marriott just added a ton of good redemption options in Southern Africa, so check that, too, before buying hotel rooms.

That said, the best thing is probably to just look for deals. There are TONS of terrific places you can stay in South Africa for under $50. Read the tripadvisor reviews and find the best.

Sadly, the only expensive accommodations are in the National Parks. It seems the gov't sets those prices to USD rates, so a room in Kruger can cost several times what comparable accommodations outside the Park would cost. Same with admission. But you should go anyway, spending some time in the parks and some time outside the parks. Food and wine are dirt cheap everywhere.

The Radisson Blu la Vendome in Cape town is also available for 40-50 € per Night incl. Breakfast in a single room on elvoline, destinia etc...

How are you seeing this? It's coming up at $114 USD a night without breakfast. Perhaps mistake fare that is gone now?
