"We're sorry, we do not recognize this as a valid promotion code based on your search criteria. Click here for terms and conditions. Promotion Code Rules"

I was looking at Fort Lauderdale, FL properties.

Got the same message. Have to make sure to select AUD for currency in the upper right hand corner.

2 week trip to Europe next summer = ~10 nights
various weekend trips to sanfrancisco/miami/los-angeles etc = ~10 nights

If you try to pick hotels that are just $101 (which is typically the lowest price you can get in western europe or expensive cities like sanfran), its basically a full 50% saving.

And the Aussie dollar is weaker so $100 aussie = $80 usd.
Overall had about $500 in savings due to this post.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting OP!

Working well for a KOA trip next year. Insomnia finally pays off ;)

$90 USD properties seem to be in the sweet spot.

This is probably a newbie question, but when it says must pay in $AUD to get the rate, how is that done actually? I mean if I'm in the US?

CDKing Dec 9, 2014 6:10 am

ebates 6% cashback so i think i'm going to try that.
Although looking where i'm going in austin it wasnt such a great deal as the properties were poorly located

Select AUD as the currency on the top right of the screen. It will be charged to your card as AUD so any foreign transaction fees will apply if your visa has one

Ok, got it. Thanks!

As is often the case, are the big chains generally excluded? I tried to price a Country Inns (a good $80ish option in some places) and it said the hotel was excluded.

And is the timeframe limited to March 31? The rules say so, but it seems like folks are booking until summer.

FWIW, US$83 should be AU$100, so that would be the sweet spot. Frustrating if you find a US$79 hotel!

EDIT: Just priced June hotel, and $50 comes off, so March 31 deadline is not enforced.

EDIT 2: Switch to AUD and put "Visacheckout" in promo box to make it easy to find hotels. What you're looking for is the price to be at least AUD $100. I hope it works, but Topcashback is offering 14%.

For most destinations, finding something decent and "a deal" won't be easy with the major chains generally excluded. I've checked 25 possible nights, and found only one. I've got a Friday night in Vegas and the Main Street Station priced at AUD100 with 2 free buffets. No resort fee there. So that's $51 all in (less, hopefully, the 14%) for a Friday night at a decent Vegas hotel with 2 decent free breakfasts. You're unlikely to get that lucky on this deal. :)

EDIT 3: Be prepared for a fraud alert on a Chase card (useful because most of those don't have foreign transaction fees). I guess the system is suspicious of the Visacheckout thing in Australian dollars!
