Hotel with kitchen?
I want to stay in a hotel in HK or Guangzhou with a real kitchen for about a week. I actually would like to use it and entertain my family while I'm in HK. Any recommendation?
|
Depending on your budget, you may be able to get a hotel in Hong Kong with a kitchen/ette. Try using the search function at wotif.com and ticking the kitchen option - it comes up with a few alternatives both on the island and in Kowloon - including Langham Place and Harbour Plaza Metropolis. To entertain family, you would probably need a one-bedroom suite, since Hong Kong hotels are not known for their spaciousness.
Guangzhou is a two hour train ride from Hong Kong, is not really suitable if you want to entertain in Hong Kong. |
The YWCA Garden View on - yes, Macdonnell Road - is another that has kitchenette in its suites, according to its website.
|
The Residence suite at the Langham Place Hotel in Mongkok has a kitchenette so you might want to look into that. They also have some specials right now through August.
|
apologies for bringing up such an old thread but i'm also looking for recommendations for hotels that have kitchens in the room....
any suggestions would be helpful.... |
Newish Citadines in TST has kitchenettes and reasonable prices. (I've never stayed, though)

thanks....this seems like a good option unfortunately i need 3 rooms & only 2 are available during my dates....
No bench space, rooms are HK standard size which means forget trying a dinner party for more than 3 people, you'll barely fit 4 take away boxes on the table provided. |

Just as a FYI, I have stayed in the Citadines Ashley in TST. Location great but the kitchenette is 1 small sink, 2 electric hot plates and the fridge was hopeless.

Do you need a kitchen in each of the three rooms or would a suite with a kitchen plus two additional rooms in the same hotel work? Also, if the concern is children in the group, would a hotel with lounge access for everyone work instead?

If you only need one kitchen, I would avoid something like Citadines where you're giving up a lot to get a kitchen in every room. You just need to find hotels that have one special suite with kitchen facilities and for this you might need to contact hotels individually.
You should also think about what's needed in the kitchen. Is a microwave sufficient or do you need a stovetop with (how many?) burners? Do you need an oven? Full size refrigerator or is a smaller one, even (empty) minibar sized, sufficient? Do you need a freezer and if so, how large? Dishwasher? What about cooking equipment, plates, and silverware? |

why would you avoid citadines????the price seems reasonable & so does the location....getting a specialty suite may cost as much as 3 rooms at the citadines....
we need a burner, microwave, small refrigerator, cooking equipment, plates & silverware.... If you can do without the burner, many more chain hotels have just the microwave and small refrigerator, although without cooking equipment. Could you bring or buy (cheap, to be discarded) minimal cooking equipment? |

Citadines rooms are small and basic. You get one small room with a small dining table in place of a comfortable place to sit. The kitchenette is a small wall unit. In fact, the room isn't much bigger than the space taken by the beds.

Have you considered an AirBnB apartment?

I live here, so it's not something I've looked at in detail. I do know that HK has plenty of AirBnB listings though.

I stayed with wife and 2 kids ages 4 and 1.
What are are you wanting to cook? The largest saucepan fits 4 eggs. If you want 4 kids to eat together with attendant adults, forget it particularly if the fold out bed has been deployed. Eat in separate rooms. Tell me me what you intend to cook and I'll tell you whether it's workable. Microwave I get is useful for sterilising. It does not have carpet which is easier to clean. Location is very good which when you have kids in a pram or who can't walk far is useful. |
What about renting an apartment via AirBnB?
|
The previously mentioned Langham Place hotel has very nice kitchens in their Residence suite type. Now rebranded as Cordis (to avoid confusion with Langham hotel). About the best kitchen you can get in terms of size/equipment for reasonable cost, also there is a good supermarket in the shopping mall next door (so you don't have to leave air conditioning if you don't want to).

Location may not be the best but I've stayed in Hyatt Regency in Shatin which has 2 bedroom suites with a kitchenette. It's about 700 sq ft with living room and kitchen in the middle and one ensuite bedroom on each side.
Got it as an "upgrade" from the manager when I stayed during a long weekend. Manager even suggested me to invite some friends for gathering there. |

It's fine for that basis (my youngest was 12 months at the time).
Just don't expect the kitchen to have much utility. There's a Fairwood 60m down the street where cheap food can be had. And honestly, it might be cheaper to eat out. There's a reasonable food court in the Silvercord building on Haiphong Rd around the corner. I should also add the sliding door is opaque so light from the bedroom shines through very easily - means it's impossible to do much once the kids are in bed. |
Most AirBnB rentals in HK have limited "kitchen", no more than a burner or two, small microwave and small fridge. Just like what the locals have.
If your plan is to heat up food for the infant that will probably do. You can forget about any real cooking. |

I remember that Royal Plaza in Mong Kok used to have kitchenettes. Not sure if they do since their renovations.

Lanson Place?
|
I'm not sure if they rent out apartments for stays less than 30 days but Chi Residences have 5 apartments blocks in HK all with fully furnished kitchens.
Price depends on location and of course the floor size/number of bedrooms. http://www.chi-residences.com/en/ |
I recommend Langham Place (Cordis hotel now). We've had a residence suite there a number of times for the same reasons, we managed to make Christmas dinner in the kitchen in December. The other advantage is the residence suites have lounge access to Club L, one of my favourite hotel lounges.
