Exclamation HK Customs?

Does anyone have any experience getting computer equipment through customs in Hong Kong? Is it a problem if I need to bring in 2 or 3 laptops? Blackberries?

Thanks in advance!

Of all the times through HKG, I've never been stopped once. But I wouldn't expect any problems, if you can prove they are for personal use, and you aren't going to sell them.

Definitely not a problem, and HK doesn't charge any excise tax for most items, tobacco and liquor excepted.

Not for personal use, but I've no intention of selling them either.

Thanks all.

Free port

Like Singapore, HK is a relatively free port and most things are duty free. (And unlike Singapore, HK permits bringing in gum & cigarettes)

In theory, even if you brought in multiple laptops for re-sale, I don't believe there are prohibitions, other than maybe filling out some paperwork.

I've transited HK customs probably... hundreds of times, from the old days at Kai Tak to CLK, and I've never been eyeballed (well, I probably have been, but not to my knowledge), let along stopped. However, that's not to say that I never saw anyone getting a closer look, but even that's rare IME.

I will bet whatever you want if I carry a couple bottles of cognac and three 10-packs of cigarettes in my arms, I"ll be stopped exiting customs.

Any wager?

They are very tough on cigarettes (you can carry only 60 = 3 packs) and hard liquor. But that's about it (Except illegal things). Liquor under 30vol% alcohol, wine and beer is duty free now.

Gone through HK customs numerous times in the last 5 years, and never had problems. HK's immigration and customs' attitude are probably 20 times better than the US. But you might get asked a couple questions if they see you carrying 3 laptops openly on yor arms. However, if you have good reasons, there should be no worries.
