Harbour fireworks on western New Year's?
 

Are any events, esp. fireworks, planned for western New Year's Eve (31 Dec) at the Harbour or elsewhere in HK?

NEW YEAR'S EVE COUNTDOWN

Start the New Year with a bang in the hotspots around Hong Kong. Join the hundreds of thousands who pack Hong Kong's Times Square, Victoria Park, Lan Kwai Fong and the magnificent Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront to cheer in the New Year. Many roads will lead to Sha Tin in the New Territories, where the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is hosting a New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival for people of all ages. Revolving around the theme of "family fun with melodies and dance", the carnival will feature ethnic dances from the renowned Alexandria Folk Dance Troupe from Egypt and local dance troupes, a pop concert, a magic show and games for the children; charity and game booths, a fortune-telling corner and roving entertainment. End 2001 and start 2002 with a night to remember.

Are similiar activities planned for this year?

The bigger celebration is around Chinese New Year. The date varies, but next year it is 31 Jan give or take a couple off days. The HK Tourist authority website will have the details.

TOO big is not necessary, since the crowds become TOO much, also!

A nice western New Years's is enough for me.

Usually they only have the fireworks for the Chinese New Year but crowds, shows and countdown are expected around Lan Kwai Fong and Times Square for the western New year along with millions of Christmas lighting along the waterfront buildings.
