Want to pose this question here since its related to the ferry => HKG.

Considering taking a HK Express flight (depart 12h45, so midday ) but would be staying the night before in Canton/Guangzhou.

Reading a lot about the ferry to HKIA, it looks like you go through passport control at Pazhou, and HK Express seems to have Upstream check-in at the ferry port. So how much time should I allow between the scheduled arrival at the HKIA/Skypier and the actual flight departure ? Does the ferry drop passengers off airside, so no need to go through security again ?

On their website, it looks like the Pazhou ferry would arrive at the Skypier 11h30, so 75mn before the 12h45 flight. Cutting it close ? Or maybe I should just fly out of Baiyun Airport and save the ferry hassle.......

The ferries at HKG drop you off airside. You probably have to reclear security but you won't need to enter/exit Hong Kong. Don't forget to get your HKG departure tax refund.

To clarify, Airside as far as Immigration, but not as far as security. Not only do you not need to enter/exit Hong Kong, you can't - so much so that if you don't have a valid same-day boarding pass at the time you try to pass through security (such as if your flight is cancelled and you've not been reaccomodated on a same-day flight), the only option is to return to Shenzhen on the ferry.

Has anyone used the ferry to transfer from HKIA to Mainland China lately? My family and I have done the transfer to HKIA many times and even recently, but never/rarely from the airport to the mainland (even pre-covid) and know they only restarted transfer this direction recently. I know that you cannot board the ferries once you go thru HK immigration/collect your bags. I know this can be tricky/counter-intuitive because even 15 years ago, a colleague we were supposed to pick up at the Shekou ferry made that mistake and had to overnight in HK before taking a ferry/going thru a land border the next day.
A family member told us that the airline will transfer your checked luggage directly onto the ferry if you present them the ferry ticket during check-in at your originating airport (my family is flying Cathay, so if any airline has this service, it'd be CX). However, we're having trouble buying a ticket/inputing the name for my 1 year old son (we're all US citizens so he has no Chinese name), so will likely have to buy the ferry tickets when they land.
- Are the steps on this flowchart up to date? https://www.hongkongairport.com/iwov...-fortchart.jpg
- If we can't buy ferry tickets in advance online (before flight check-in in the originating airport), where can we buy tickets upon landing? Transfer Area E2?
- Is it possible to get the baggage tag thru service to the PRD ports if we buy tickets after landing? If not, how do we get our checked bags onto the ferry?

Yes, you can buy the ferry tickets on arrival. I have always done this - never in advance.

When you buy your tickets, you present your luggage tags, and the ferry people will arrange for your luggage to be transferred.
Again, I have never had luggage tagged to Shenzen, always to HKG and then transferred on arrival.
