Use all your spare change to pay for your hotel bill before you leave, then use your credit card to cover the rest.

I have to visit Macau almost monthly, and rarely stay overnight. As much as I try avoid getting MOP in change, sometimes this proves impossible. We're talking very small money here, but typically enough for at least bottle of water.

But only locally-issued cards or local bank accounts can be linked. Called Automatic Add Value Service "AAVS."

Totally forgot about that! Good options for HK locals though.

Maybe they can negotiate a massive discount with AMEX, Visa, and MC?

It would be silly if they can't considering there are lots of cities that allow AMEX/Visa/MC such as London and New York. Even tiny little Vancouver, Canada accept contactless payment so what's HK's excuse now? I suspect it's more than just the fees, but also about user's data as well.

OMG, that is so smart! Too bad I just left HK again, but I'm going to do this wherever I go from now on. I suspect it'll work with most if not all hotels.

Thank you!!!

I've noticed an uptick in G Pay adoption during the past year.

Where specifically? Probably won't make a huge difference for me. I use both an iPhone and Android as my daily drivers.

The exact reasons vary, but the word "Octopus" is pretty much the root of all reasons.
