They've gotten the gifts I brought back and my Firm has the documents. So, I suspect there won't be many visits over the next couple of weeks.

CNN reported on January 28 that land borders between HK and the mainland were closed "until further notice."

Not all border crossings with the Mainland were closed: just two very little used land crossings and the HSR and through-train services to the Mainland, along with ferries and some bus and air services.

Good news. We may yet contain this.

That said, unclear why we had to shut HK-Macau.

I would find it extremely disappointing that anyone who has known me for any period of time would think I wouldn't self quarantine and would need to be reminded. Those who know me very well, I'd find it rude, yes.
Well, keeping in mind we do not know you or your colleagues, may I suggest they were possibly thinking about what happened in Munich? According to the French news the current view is the Chinese person's colleagues in Munich got the virus from attending a meeting together. I have no idea if this is true or not, but if your US colleagues have read about this then I can see them very concerned about being in the same room with you.

One of my uncles travels between Macau and HK frequently. Another travels between Zhuhai and HK. This is going to make things difficult for them.

I was in HK and had gone before any of this really had gone viral or any bans in place. And, even while in HK, I had taken all of the necessary precautions, such as washing my hands constantly, wore masks & sunglasses, and kept out of crowds. Except for a business dinner in a private environment, I had never eaten in a public venue, and relied on either room service or my hotel's restaurant. On the flight back, I was relatively secluded in F, had my mask & sunglasses on, used disinfectant and didn't eat or drink anything, except for my bottle water.

As an abundance of caution, even though HK is not on the list, I had decided to self-quarantine. And, based on some the replies on this thread, I'm starting to wonder why HK isn't on the list? If in my situation, there's such a grave threat where it makes sense to not be in the room with me, shouldn't HK be on the list then?

Now, I don't care about any of that. I just find it rude that my business partners who had asked me to go to HK had the temerity to suggest I stay away. I'd rather the customary method of politely welcoming me back, and knowing that I would politely suggest I needed a couple of weeks off. I'm a founding partner, not an employee. My business partners have no right to tell me to do anything, and that they did is a breach of etiquette, one that I'll remind them of when I return.

They're more worried they're asymptomatic infectious than you coming from outside China/HK.

Forget about taking the bridge to Macau if you're a gambler: the casinos are closing for two weeks.

Yes, it's that serious.
