Send a package locally from HKG
I will be arriving at HKG at 21:35 and there is one little package (about 2KG) that I need to send locally within HK.
I have done a little research and it seems that the HK post office at the airport is already closed, is there any courier service offers late pick up? Or does HK post has a service that I can prepay for postage and simply drop it in one of the mail boxes? |
This is unrelated to CX... moving to the HKG forum.

I believe the mail boxes at the airport are for documents only. Certainly the slots are thin/narrow, so for a parcel you'd have to go to the counter, which as you noted is closed (8:30pm Mon-Sat, 5:00pm Sun/PHs).
Offhand I can't think of a courier company that does late (specific) runs. Most have pick-ups schedules and drop off locations/times. Perhaps one option is GoGoVan. It has a 24/7 service. I just don't know whether it can accommodate a run to the airport (depends where the drivers are). No harm in asking... https://www.gogovan.com.hk/en/service |
Gogovan isnt going to work.
when are you leaving the country? There is a self printing service but ull still need to drop it off at a post office. |

Pre-911 this would be easily done ... now a package that size at an airport needs to be checked, never mind that it came from a plane. That's why the mail boxes don't accept packages, only letters. Cheaper to mail package from your point of origin country, or if you want to mail in HKG you will need to pay big bucks for courier pickup at that time of night. Worst case the freight forwarding companies will accomodate you (but may well charge $1000 for this service). Been there, done that, and there is no cheap way.

As weird as it may sound, it's probably easier for you to ship the package from Shenzhen after you arrive to HKG then trying to find a late night courier at HKG. There's an "express" company that SZ locals knows quite well that can ship it to HKG at very reasonable rates.

I assume this is the company he's referring to, and yes it would probably be easier to just send it from Shenzhen:
SF Express But note that for delivery in HK to certain places, including any residential address, this company charges an additional fee payable on delivery, though you can avoid the fee by arranging for pick-up at one of their collection points. |

I mention the fee sometimes payable on delivery when using SF Express not because it's exorbitant but because it often comes as surprise to the recipient, who was expecting just a package, not a package and a bill.
|
Yes - I got caught out by that the first time. But it's not for all deliveries - for example, from iHerb over the minimum order for free delivery via SF Express really is free delivery, even though they charge for deliveries from other senders to the same address. So it must be possible for the sender to pay "all in".
|
But how do you know when free delivery via SF Express really is free delivery? Because that's the problem: many sellers advertise "free delivery" to HK, but you nonetheless end up with a bill for delivery to a residential address.
|
That I don't know. I just have two datapoints: orders from iHerb delivered by SF Express are genuinely free at the point of delivery; local deliveries from an international forwarder that I use (ShopEasy Logistics) from Mongkok to the mid-levels involve a fee both to ShopEasy (in advance) and to SF Express (on delivery).

i believe this is to do with residential address attracts a surcharge but this PLA-backed company.
the shop says free postage (which it is, in theory) but not the residential delivery surcharge. like how airlines charge fuel surcharge on award tickets - how would we know which airlines charge YQ (BA) or not (AA)? |
