Dutyfree wines from HKG to Philippines

HKG duty free apparently no longer allows sales of wines to passengers whose final destination city is different from the city port of entry. (even if it is within the same country)

girl said something about "alcohol control".

is this a new development?

i remember bringing in champagne from KUL to MNL then bringing it while still sealed in its security duty free bag from MNL to another city within the Philippines with no problem just last year.

are the HKG sellers just more conscientious and i just lucked out that time i got to my final destination with wine from KUL?

TravelBuzz is for general topics not specific to an airline, airport, destination, credit card, or hotel program.

Moving this to the Hong Kong forum for further discussion. Thanks. /JY1024, TravelBuzz moderator

I'm not sure, but since there's no duty in HK to be free of (on drinks under 30% alcohol) you'll generally get a much better deal in town, and then just put the wine in your checked bags.

I believe the girl misspoke.

Instead of "alcohol control", I would say it is more like security measures.
