Airfare Expectations

I'd love to have any opinion...
I have a group planning this itinerary: LAX to HKG, then some other travel, then Tokyo (either NRT or HND, not sure yet) back to LAX.
The "round-trip" airfare prices I am seeing range from $500 to $1000 USD.
Is this reasonable?
Many thanks.

There are many factors determining what is reasonable. At the minimum, the departure date and time affects the cost of the ticket.

18,000 miles with a stopover, for $500 bucks. Try to get that on any other form of travel.
Though that's in coach so a torturous journey if you're over 5 feet tall and 100 pounds.

Not sure why asking about Hong Kong airfare on a Hong Kong forum would be considered "cross posting".
Please educate me about the appropriate forum for a question of this sort.
Many thanks!

Cross-posting is posting the same question on multiple forums. You have also posted the exact same question on the Japan forum. That is what is discouraged on FlyerTalk - you should aim to pick only the one most appropriate forum for your question.

I think under $1,000 is reasonable but there are so many [personal] factors that weigh on that. Some people want to fly a specific airline, or even aircraft. Some want different seats and some want different departure or arrival times. You haven't provided enough information, but it really does not matter. The right price is the on you are OK paying.

Yes, that's reasonable given the limited amount of information. I've seen higher round trips because of flying on certain days and around peak times. Relatives routinely pay in that range for leisure trips.
