Is there any way to find out in advance when it's going to be closed for maintenance? They seem to close for a week every 2 months or so but I can't find anywhere where it's announced.

Did I miss it? Don't see any announcement there that the cable car will be down for five months beginning sometime in January while cables are replaced.

Therefore, we are now working hard to start the rope replacement project in early January 2017. The whole project, which will last for approximately 5 months, is targeted for completion in early June 2017. We will announce the project’s start date a few weeks before it commences.

This is a company that won't even send out notification on their site when there's major interruption, and the whole Admiralty or Kowloon Tong or Tai Wai platform is packed with people from one end to the other.

I have to say that this is not my experience at all - the MTR app pumps out lots of notifications of even quite minor delays.

There's a Twitter account, but it's not an official MTR operation:

Why would there be a group of employees running the unofficial MTR Update Twitter and FB page if the company is doing its job properly?

If you turn on notifications with the MTR app you get notifications of any train or station issues.

If MTR felt like they had to legally or when the public was lucky that day.

Bummed that this is going to be out of service when I visit in February.

They talk about land-sea tours during the outage in a press release but no details on where and when.

It is not rumored, but an announced certainty it won't be running in Feb. What missing is the details.

Anyone have any idea what access to the rescue trail will be like while this work is taking place. I presume it will be off limits to hikers.

I'm in HK first week of Feb and weather permitting I was going to hike Lantau Peak via the rescue trail.

I believe one of the announcements said that the rescue trail would be closed as well.
