Tropical Cyclone Haima will move across the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea on Thursday morning. The Observatory will issue Standby Signal, No. 1 by then. According to the present forecast track, Haima will edge closer to the coast of Guangdong on Friday, and may skirt within 100 kilometers of Hong Kong, posing a threat to the territory. The weather is expected to deteriorate significantly on Friday. There will be frequent squalls and heavy rain. Seas will be rough with swells. Members of the public should remain vigilant and take all precautions as early as possible.

On my way to SFO to connect with SQ1 tonight. Could be a bumpy ride as I am due to land on the 21st at 6am

I'm guessing your flight will arrive from the north (as opposed to from the east), and you won't experience many bumps as a result.

Fingers crossed.
I am only overnighting so hopefully i can get out again on the Saturday. I might try for a re-route to SIN as my final destination is DPS and HKG was just a stop to visit friends. I think they will understand if i skip due to the storm.

Looking at EF - I don't have insider info or official announcement

But I see CX zeroing out flights from 14:35 (departure) and 15:05 (landing) HKG on Friday 21, *all* of Saturday 22 and the redeyes on Sunday 23. Flighs on Sunday 23 morning and after look normal.

The zeroing out on Saturday would be simply to keep capacity for people from any cancelled flights tomorrow I guess. The typhoon should be gone by Saturday morning.

CX have issued a waiver but SQ are still insisting that tonight's flight is scheduled and will be on time. Have called twice now and both times same response.

What does zeroing out mean?

Flights arriving Friday morning are en route. My flight from NY scheduled to arrive Saturday morning is still as scheduled.

Lots of cancellations tomorrow (Friday). Lots.

And the intercity trains to Guangzhou and Shanghai are also cancelled tomorrow.

SQ1 landed fine this morning at 6am. It was actually bumpier earlier in the flight than around HGK.

I did hear in the lounge prior to arrival that the UA flight that was due to leave after us had been CXL.

Usually, most foreign airlines from long-haul locations would simply cancel the flight rather than flying in for 12 hours to see what is going to happen. CX/KA is still operating as per schedule.

"CX/KA is still operating as per schedule."

They certainly are not. It's 11:30am Friday in HK and about 90 percent of departures for the rest of the day on both airlines are cancelled.
