durian
I'll be in HK for one night in early July, staying in the Tsim Sha Tsui area. I'd like to buy some fresh durian, perhaps one of the better types, flesh removed from the fruit in my presence and vacuum packed or otherwise airtight-sealed for carrying on the plane.
Is this too ambitious a goal? If it is possible, can you suggest some suitable full-service fruit stores? Many thanks, |
You are definitely looking for trouble :D:D
Simply go to any markets and see if people are willing to do it... FWIW - they use plastic wrap and foam plate... |

Thanks...this risk is what I wanted to avoid. So I was hoping there was a store somewhere with a vacuum-packing machine, the kind where they make heat-sealed plastic packages. Taking the air out also reduces the risk that the package will leak at reduced cabin pressure.
FWIW - Bringing the entire durian (with the shell) and consuming the durian onboard is what causes the problem. Average packaging (plastic wrap without vacuum) should be fine. If you have doubt, simply ask any person if they smell anything funny :D |
Assuming you want to import it in another country, I take it that you have checked that you can actually do so? Many countries ban the introduction of agricultural produce in private imports that do not go through commercial phyto-sanitary inspections.
