Typhoon Tembin and impact to HKG ops?
Does anybody know how typhoon Tembin will impact HKG this weekend? I'm flying HKT to HKG on Sunday, and taking HKG-ORD Monday morning. I'm worried that my flight to HKG will be cancelled, causing me to miss my flight back home.
Should I buy a cheap ticket from HKT-BKK, and then pay the UA change fee and fly BKK-NRT-ORD. Or am I worrying too much? Thanks! |
Projected path is turning back south, so no direct hit. And won't get close until late Sunday. But of course, that's just projection. 3-4 days out.

If it is a direct hit or within say 150km of HKG you will see a number of delayed and cancelled flights, but it is up to each airline to determine their operations. The last storm through here which was barely a T8 delayed dozens of flights.
This mornings updates show it slowing down a bit so it might not get to HKG until a bit later. Check out the JTWC (google it) tracks to get an idea (US Navy) |
This morning's computer runs are showing a possible u-turn back toward Taiwan.

The U-turn is more pronounced in this afternoon's computer models. Doesn't look like HK will be affected.
