How to file consumer complaint in HK?
Hi, all. I'm posting now because a friend of mine was forced to pay MU a $500 name change fee simply because his middle name was appended to his first name on a recent ticket (passport is last/first only). I have volunteered to help him recover these funds, based on principle (like most of you, I also have a middle name).
I'm planning on emailing MU and Expedia, but would love to be able to include the HK equivalent of an AG (i.e. someone of authority in the CC field), as well. BTW, I am completely aware of the fact that MU is based in Shanghai; since my friend was fleeced in HK, I am placing this thread in the HK forum. |
You can try the consumer council
http://www.consumer.org.hk/website/w...ocomplain.html The travel industry council of HK also regulates agencies and may be able to assist you, but I think this is mainly for agencies and not airlines. http://www.tichk.org/public/website/en/index.html Lastly, you could also try your credit card dispute department, but I find the ones in the USA are more helpful than HK when it comes to disputes. But as you probably know, airlines are very fickle these days about MI, and his name should've been provided to the airline as shown in passport upon booking. I think this may be hard to dispute while I agree with you is a ridiculous charge.

As such, if I could get an email address of someone that would instill fear into MU, I'd be most appreciative (naturally, this could be done via PM). Whether or not this happens, I promise --almost on my life-- that I'll get my boy his $500 back. |

Your friend should have contacted Expedia as soon as the ticket was issued to correct the mistake. I have bought air tickets from Expedia before and the instruction was very clear to enter the Middle Name only if it is on the ID. |

It appears that your friend bought the ticket through Expedia (bold is mine) and has either inadvertantly filled in the name boxes incorrectly during the purchase process, or Expedia had made a mistake.

That having been said, since MU is the party that collected his $500, I want to focus on them. While understand that the HK government is pro-business, I'm confident in my abilities to break MU down. Look at it this way; I have lots of employees who spend their mornings on taobao; if one of them were to hound MU every single day, we're sure to get a positive result. I have other (less friendly) strategies in mind, as well. |

Yes, Expedia did make a mistake; the phone guy there pressured him to provide his middle name.
