Liquor from HK

One thing I get for myself when I travel is a bottle of liquor, wine, etc made in that country.

I do have something from China but consider Hong Kong different. My research has come up with nothing that is actually made in Hong Kong that has some form of liquor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I also look for a toy made in the country.

Liquor out of Hong Kong : I think some local resturants have their private brew but it is really minority. We used to have our beer factory but it is now a big private housing estate.

Toy : Basically there are no local made toy, sorry.

Well the grapes are imported, but we have a winery: http://the8estatewinery.com/

There is also locally brewed real ale, but, as far as I know it's only available in draught, not bottled. http://www.typhoonbrewery.com.hk/

Thanks for the link. I also found a beer "The Hong Kong Beer" that is made in Hong Kong. I have 46 bottles at my house from 46 countries... No beer ones though because I never thought of a beer (maybe from Prague I might have one that is beer).

Are either the wine you set me link and / or beer I found available from a grocery or liquor store that I will end up walking by during my visit Oct 1 for three days?

Thanks for all the help

BTW I am staying at Sheraton Hong Kong and Towers in Kowloon.

As noted, the beer is only available on draught (i.e. by hand pump) at one or two pubs. It is not, as far as I know, available in bottles. As to the wine, I've no idea I'm afraid. The website has online sales, but isn't very helpful in finding where to get it otherwise.

Are you sure about the beer named "Hong Kong Beer"? I found it with google search and there was a picture of a bottle. In the comments someone specifically notes that beer being brought home for a family member.

I ask because I don't want to spend time chasing a ghost but if it is a popular beer I would try and find it.

To clarify, Hong Kong Beer is the one that is available in bottles and on tap, although it may only be on tap at East End Brewery. I've had it in bottle form at Cochrane's in Soho and it was nothing special, your typical light beer. I believe it may be available for sale at select supermarkets but while in Hong Kong a few weeks ago, I didn't notice it at Taste, Wellcome or Jason's. It should be noted that I wasn't actively looking for it but I was extensively browsing the beer sections for some decent stuff to drink.

Typhoon T8 is only on tap as christep noted. I had it at The Globe (located in Central on Graham Street) recently, although apparently the GF and I had the last two and a half pints of the stuff. We returned a couple of nights later and they were sadly still out.

You can buy 'the Hong Kong Beer' in a bottle in the Jason's Marketplace in the lower level of K11 Mall 2 blocks behind Sheraton..
Exit hotel onto Nathan Rd.. walk North (away from water) to Holiday Inn.
about 200m. You'll be @ Mody Rd. Walk another 1-150meters down and the K11 is on your left.. Can't miss it.. It's a HUGE building!
Go down one level and Jason's is there.

Thanks for the info; that will be a stop for me while in Hong Kong.

Went to Jason's today and cannot believe they are out of Honk Kong Beer. Back at Sheraton and they call City Shop (Mall just down street by harbor). They have four bottles and I picked on up. Seems everyone in town thinks San Miquel is the local beer (It does say made in HK on bottle) but to me that is not unique.

Thanks for all the help..

BTW I'm approached by tailors all the time. I was able to get someone down to $250US for suit with what he said was second best quality, shirt, and two ties with cuff links. Did not bite just wondering if this even makes sense for a price.

Also any Pearl places?? I was able to get pearls (fresh water through a contact in Beijing for $8US per strand. Man have I gotten some great mileage for those at the office. Seems my stock is running low:)

How about five snake wines from the Lantao islands? You have to know who to ask.

San Miguel is indeed brewed in Hong Kong, though I would agree that it is not unique. There's also Blue Girl. Locally brewed and - despite the advertising -aimed squarely at the blue-collar workers of Hong Kong.

There's a woman in the back of the jade market that does decent quality at very good prices. Sorry, can't remember her name but others around here might.
