Splitting Reservation/Points
 

I'm traveling for a reunion weekend this coming weekend and staying at an Embassy Suites with one of my good friends.

We are actually both HH Diamonds. He made the reservation, and we usually split the charges. We're both point scroungers (but he's not a member of FT) and both are in need of credit for nights to keep our lovely Diamond status...The credit for the nights are of greater importance to me than the points.

I've stayed at hotels before that can split the bill in half, but never had to do this at a Hilton property. Is there a way to do it where we'd both get 1/2 points and credit for the stay?

Any input/suggestions would be appreciated!

I'd say you should each book one night. Check out of his reservation and check into yours. I doubt any other method (like asking nicely for a one-off) will be successful.

You would each get half the points, and you'd each get a full 'stay'. If you choose points + miles, you'd also both get the full amount of miles for a stay.

If the reservation is already made, then see if you can book the second night under your name. You can always specify a shorter check-out for your reservation when he checks in.

Thanks, I figured as much. I know at Starwood properties it's easy to split the reservation down the middle, with a folio for each traveler.

But my problem is solved...At least for my benefit. The rate dropped $60 today from what it was over the weekend, and $80 less than what my friend had it booked at. But he's out of the country right now and can't book it, so I rebooked it from my logon. I'd still like to split the folio of possible--it's only fair for 2 diamonds to each get some credit out of it, but I'll gladly take it in its current format! :)

If you have 2 sepparate reservations (even if on your name), at checkin you can ask them to bill you for one night and bill your friend for the other night. This way all is fine and everybody is happy.

I've had Hiltons split the bill for me in the past. However, it was back in the 90's and I honestly don't remember how it worked for points purposes.

I checked doing a fake reservation, and although the system can do room shares and split the bill between two separate folios in the room, it doesn't seem to have the ability for there to be an Hhonors number added to the second folio for the room. I would go with the suggestion of two reservations and just make sure you call the hotel and let them know so they can assign you the same room ahead of time and you won't have to change rooms.
