I think the Hilton KL lounge food has gone downhill too, for that matter. I've stayed 6 nights at DT KL in the last few weeks, each time I was upgraded to an executive suite from a base room booked on points and got some good work done in the lounge during the day, and then had half my day's food there (I have a four hour intermittent fasting feeding window) in the evening. When you think about it, the current lounge offering gives you wine and beer, three types of salad plus basic make-your-own, two types of sandwiches, a basic cheese plate, three basic hot dishes, a great fruit plate, and three choices of dessert. That's not too shabby for any Doubletree. The change in redemption prices is, at the end of the day, no more than a very long overdue closing of an arbitrage opportunity - we should all be grateful that we were able to take advantage of it for so long!

however I disagree on the points part, as apart from Hilton KL, the other 2 Hiltons' in Malaysia are 10k on points with Suite upgrades being the norm in Kuching, while Petaling Jaya only has them on the Exec Lounge level so understandable they are seldom available as FOC upgrades.
with so many properties including Canopy & Conrad coming up in KL, it's a puzzle why the DTKL would raise the redemption rate now

New HH Gold here staying in DTKL for the weekend
got upgraded to Exec Room even though I need to wait quite sometime as they need to check room availability and advice me not to do online check in as that would affect upgrade
the lounge have quite a bit of people but not packed
Cocktail hours:beer, red and white wine while other type of liquor is on request (vodka, gin).food choices(2 Japanese cold choice,2 hot choice, with a selection of fruits

Hello i need an advice.. family 2 adults + 2 teenagers, will spend 3 nights in KL and then move to Cameron highlands with rented car. I have 105k points to spend and rest i would pay with money if needed.
I was thinking about DT or HGI? Which one would you recommend? As a 3rd option is some hotels from IHG group..there I have even more points.
Thanks for your help

HIX is very central and convenient for the Bukit Bintang area for shopping and nightlife.
HI Glenmarie is way out of town, on a golf course and very good value.
For HH, the PJ Hilton is a solid option: not so conveniently located as the Sentral Hilton, but considerably cheaper.
The HGI's are fine: good value, central, but not so well located for transport links: you get what you pay for.

I've no idea which hotel offers more chance of a Gold upgrade, but I'd suggest the DT might be the one. In any case, it is in the Intermark building with a food court below, quite a number of attractive-looking restaurants and a supermarket where you could stock up on goodies to compensate for a non-lounge outcome.
I'd forget the IC. It's a better hotel in just about every respect, but without access to the splendid lounge the delta in price might not be worth it.

Loved this hotel at 10k per night. Last went at start of the year. You guys reckon still worth at 20k per night?
i haven't experienced any issues with the service but I think the breakfast has gone downhill significantly.
But the location at the intermark is just soooo convenient to laze around at the Starbucks and random fooderies.

Did a 4 night stay here over the Lunar New Year. Welcome letter sent to email specifically says Diamonds are eligible for (space available) upgrade to Deluxe Suite, a first for me for any Hilton I've stayed in so far. Upon check in at 3pm, was told by check-in guy that all suites are fully booked so they upgraded me to an Executive Room (which basically isn't an upgrade at all since Diamonds have lounge/bf in any room anyway) despite app showing availability for suites. I guess they were reserving them for more diamond diamonds
Room was OK, showing its age a bit with little things not working here and there (the bathroom blinds jammed and tore, the study desk lamp wasn't working, the sofa-side floor lamp switch wasn't working), but other than that it was a nice, comfortable, spacious room, I didn't have any material issues with it. I had emailed the hotel earlier and asked for a baby cot, but despite email being acknowledged I guess nobody actually acted on it so I had to call service to bring me one later on in the evening. Also as is par for the course for Hiltons, late check out request was granted grudgingly until only 2pm.
Breakfast at Makan Kitchen had a decent spread, large buffet spread and I guess I liked the to-order prata/roti canai section, but otherwise nothing outstanding (if compared to other hotels within same price range). No priority queue for golds/diamonds which seems OK as long as you don't turn up at 10am on a weekend. BF at exec lounge is a far more relaxing affair, but the spread is also far lower (still perfectly serviceable though with several hot dishes, fruits, pastries, juices, cereals, etc, and made to order eggs).
Executive Lounge in the evenings was OK but it was certainly anything but 'executive' with lots of families with little kids running around. We only went once on a Saturday and it was packed to the brim - all tables full, we ended up needing to stand and eat.
Location is pretty good as it's got a sheltered walkway to Ampang Park LRT station, but if you're just lazing around, the downstairs Intermark mall is a great place to hang out too.
All in all a satisfying stay, but I don't know if I'd stay here again in my next trips (Discovery treats their Blacks way better than Hilton treats Diamonds so I might hop over to Parkroyal and try them out).

Back after four years!
Finally got the chance to come back after four years at this hotel. The last time this hotel still cost me 10/K a night. This time, the cost was 17/K a night.
Very satisfied with this short one night stay! They initially upgraded me from the entry level room to a King Executive. Before arrival I got several messages by the Hilton Honors app. And I even got a WhatsApp message from the GM if everything was allright.
On the day of arrival they upgraded me to a Deluxe Suite and when I arrive they assigned me an Executive Suite.
The rooms are showing a bit age, but nothing terrible. The A/C was set on permafrost mode.
Breakfast is still great in my opinion. I did not see any differences in the food offerings. The only difference is that they don't have a dedicated Diamond section anymore.
Did not had a chance to try the evening cocktails in the Executive Lounge, but I did see the breakfast spread. The spread was decent and it was not busy at all in the lounge during breakfast.
The staff at the Executive Lounge and breakfast are very friendly. All in all, I did enjoy my stay here.
