Stayed at ES South earlier this month. Typical ES - only caveat would be to request a room NOT directly over the open area where the evening reception/breakfast is held. Seemed noisy as sound carried straight upwards (children, dishes, etc) - think the other end of the building would be quieter during those times.

Best/Worst LAX Hotel
Searched, but found dated or irrelevant info.
This Gold is looking to book a hotel in the LAX area for one night using points. Have heard poor comments about the LAX Hilton, which was where we probably would have booked had it not been for a previous thread. Any thoughts? Thank you for all your help.

LAX Hilton is below average for a Hilton IMO. Not dire, but not great. I last stayed in Spring '03. It just seems dated. Nothing else really wrong with it, it's not unpleasant or dirty. But compared to the Hiltons i've stayed at in the US and abroad, the dating of the property moves it below average.

I agree the LAX Hilton is a poor choice for using points. Undoubtedly I'd go to the ES, either two blocks from from the Hilton (which is the ES North) or the El Segundo location (ES South). I've stayed at the south location several times, great Italian restaraunt in the hotel. My 2 cents.

I guess I would stay at the ES - El Segundo for the free breakfast over the HGI which is also nearby. The south side of the airport is a bit more interesting than Century Blvd. (ES - North and LAX Hilton) and gives better access to the 105 freeway. Good Hawaiian food places are not far away!

I've stayed at the HGI in El Segundo and thought it was perfectly adequate. It's a fairly new property and seems well run. If you are gold or diamond, you will probably be given breakfast coupons.

Thanks for all your tips. I guess the biggest benefit for staying at the HGI would be free internet. Anyone know the cost of connecting to the web at the ES North or South?

Please, tell me, how on earth can you resist the LAX Hilton Romance package? Is there any question about where to stay?

HGI - No doubt
Stayed at both HGI and DT last weekend and HGI would be my choice....no doubt.
As Gold, you'll get breakfast coupon (main course is not buffet but rest of items are!!!) + 2 bottles of water.
Winners for me: free broadband, free breakfast and good service. Also, if it matters to you, its next to the metro

The HGI wins hands down. In addition to the goodies posted previously, they have a computer for *FREE* use on the business center as well as an awesome *FREE* color printer. Also they have a pile of *FREE* WSJ in the lobby each weekday and free apples and coffee too. All the chefs produce fine omelets. A nice plate of 4 varieties of cookies is placed on the FD each evening. The shuttle driver will drop you at local restaurants, markets, car rentals etc. Their restaurant is very good, and once I had mahi-maui as fresh, fine and flavorful as any I have had in Hawai (a nice restaurant special that eve).
(edited) I just received a call to be in the LAX area tonight and I have my choice of hotels. I booked the HGI with the Diamond Guarantee (ouch!) rather than the LAX Hilton (about the same price) with its lumpy beds, nightly overpriced drinks and ultra-greasy chicken wings in the over-crowded noisy exec lounge.
