Alas, until they provide a courtesy shuttle its of limited use for many of us unless you want to spend 9.50 pounds for a taxi to/from the property. This is their "special" price arranged with a local taxi service.

And presumably, in Luton North, it's not even within walking distance of a train station. Any buses to/from the airport or station?

Those are good questions, IMO, to ask via the e-mail provided.

The train station and airport are 3+ miles from the hotel. I emailed and asked.

You'd think that Hilton would provide better transit connectivity and/or a preferred city center/airport site, in this day of green consciousness and healthy living. The greenfield site they apparently chose is inauspicious for the launch of a new brand in the UK, forcing car use in a throwback to 1950s America.

Just completed a stay at this hotel last weekend. Stupidly I used the sat nav which took me to a cemetary in butterfield green lane. Thankfully the hotel was about a quarter of a mile further along the main road just off a roundabout.
There was ample parking available and being new the hotel rooms and recreational areas were in excellent order. I booked a family room on a flexible rate for £67. This was for 2 adults and 2 children. I thought this was excellent value. The room was bright clean and spacious and had neutrogena toiletries in the bathroom. It also had an in room safe and small fridge. Breakfast was self service cooked and continental. They even had a waffle maker which the kids loved. As an HH gold member we were given the option of an extra 750 points or complimentary breakfast. Given that breakfast was £9.95 per person it was a no brainer, so we all enjoyed the breakfast. On a separate note their is a business centre with 2 PC's both allowing free access to the internet. Free WI FI was also provided in the room. We enjoyed the hotel and would definately use it again. |
Hilton Garden Inn Luton North Trip Reports and Reviews
Stayed 2 nights at this property as part of a convention.
The property is quite new and is actually much better than most of UK Hiltons. It's actually a bit far away from the airport, 10/15 mn cab ride. Apparently only 2 types of room available, standard and family. We got a fmaily room which means it's a bit bigger and with a sofa/pull-out bed installed. The rest is standard fare i.e usual clock, LCD TV, fridge, iron, coffee machine, safe, etc... The toiletries are Neutrogena instead of the usual Crabtree/Evelyn, I actually liked them better. A nice touch is that you have a microwave room available as well as an onsite mini grocery store (albeit at extortionate price). Breakfast is quite tasty with a waffle machine, omelettes cooked to order and the usual pastries, croissants, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns, etc... Our rate was inclusive of all meals and the food was of quite good quality, howver service was subpar. We ordered wine and it was served to the table unopened. When we asked for it to be opened a waitress just provided us with the little Hilton bottle opener like the ones they give with the GE/DE amenity. One thing I didn't like is that the late checkout was only extended to 14:00 (normal checkout 11:00) when we were on a 170gbp rate (and being Diamond). At least that meant the convention ended 2 hours earlier than planned :D UTA |
I have stayed at this hotel twice before. It is as you say about a 10 minute drive to the airport and is not really near anything of note.
I liked the rooms, the hotel was very clean and breakfast was very good. I never bothered eating on an evening in the restaurant. I do seem to remember it never looked very busy on an evening though. On a trip with the family we took advantage of the hotels movie and dine offer. It was a movie, Pizza, popcorn and drinks for £15. Not great for adults, but okay for children wanting a snack. If I needed to be in that area I would definately use the hotel again. |
Stayed there about 18 months ago, shortly after it opened. It doesn't advertise itself as the HGI Luton Airport, but as the Hilton Garden Inn Luton North. Got a great weekend rate of £39 under the January Sale rate including breakfast. Agree that like most of the newer Hamptons and Doubletrees in the UK, the hotel is actually much better than a lot of the older UK Hiltons. As stated, a bit out of the way and a car makes the hotel quite a good base. We drove down into Central London on the Saturday morning in about 45 minutes. Would definitely stay again.

Title edited, I must be thinking of airports/aircraft a little bit too much :D

I stayed there for a dozen days very recently and it was ok. Rooms are confortable and nothing bad to be noted there. Service is however very versatile: newspaper for HHonors members forgotten or 'arrived too late" 30 % of the time, stupid habit of cleaning the lobby at the moment when the maximum number of persons goes through it, very American restaurant menu and limited healthy room service. Besides, it's really lost in the middle of nowhere so avoid if no car...
Would stay there again, basically because there's nothing else only. |
Far a variety of reasons, I spent Christmas in the hotel!
Very comfortable family room as described above. Execllent buffet breakfast, with hot options and eggs/pancakes prepared as requested. Staff were great - helpful and friendly. We had Christmas lunch there also, for about £49. Three courses, large glass of reasonable sparkling wine, coffee and mince pies. We booked our choice of food in advance. Staff worked hard and changed a course, offering in fact, without any issues. Food was 9/10 - turkey a little overcooked, roast potatoes a little pale, but only minor grumbles. We were all very pleased. |
Review
Stayed here last week for one night mid week.
The hotel is nice and modern and I thought good value. The location isn't brilliant for nearby food options etc. without driving but it's only a short drive to various options. Having had a VERY long day I decided to eat in the bar, which I thought was fairly reasonable value and the food was pretty decent (albeit the dessert was slightly overpriced). Breakfast was better than I expected. Room was nice and smart, only negative was the peeling ceiling above the shower which I guess means lack of ventilation but I was super happy to come across a hotel which has a sliding door for the shower and therefore doesn't result in bathroom floods! Was welcomed as a Gold with two vouchers for free bottles of water and choice of breakfast or 750 points. Unlikely I'd need to stay here again but wouldn't hesitate to book if I needed to. |

There's a bus stop right outside the hotel, which has 3 buses an hour towards Hitchin and Stevenage, and about 4 an hour into Luton. IIRC it's a couple of buses an hour to the airport. You're looking at about 10-15 minutes by bus from Luton railway station, or 10 mins walk then 10-15 mins bus from Hitchin station. Fewer in the evening or weekends, so check timetables online, but there are some other stops a short walk away. Google Maps is pretty good for looking those up. The hotel is in the PlusBus zones for both Hitchin and Luton, so if you're coming by train you can get a PlusBus for a few quid to get you onwards to the hotel. In terms of other restaurants, as others have said there isn't anything close. There's a handful in Luton, which'd mean a bus ride or short taxi ride, or a wider selection in Hitchin (which is quick to get to) This isn't a city centre hotel, so don't book thinking it is! It's right on the edge of the town, so you can go for a nice walk in the countryside straight from the hotel. |
