How to I get Hilton Grand Vacations ClubŪ to stop calling me non-stop?
Starting yesterday I started getting 5 calls a day from HGVC trying to get me to come to Orlando, San Diego, or Vegas for a weekend stay to try to sell me a timeshare. They somehow got my cell phone number and it comes up as blocked on my phone. I can't not answer it because some of my business contacts come up as blocked.
When I asked how they got this number they say they got it from Hilton because I stayed at a Hilton in the past 3 years. Its true that I stay at Hiltons, but I never gave Hilton my cell phone. I have asked them to put me on the do not call list, and I keep getting they will try. Even getting to speak to a manager, which as not helped. Is there anyone I can contact to stop this before its gets more out of control? |
Next time they call and you have about an hour to waste, ask them the most inane questions possible and drag out the conversation incessantly. And keep going back to the same questions again and again.
Their metrics are conversion rate and number of calls. An hour long call with no sale is a disaster. |
To answer the original question
Buy something....
Or- Tell them you just bought something last month... |
Put your phone number on the no-call list. (https://www.donotcall.gov/) The next time they call, tell them you are on the no-call list and if they call again, you will report them. There is a significant fine for calling people on the no-call list. This strategy worked for me, the calls stopped immediately.

No-call list has exceptions for companies you have an existing business relationship with. HGVC is probably using that loophole as part of the Hilton Family.

I also complained twice to Hilton and got the usual "We're looking into it" line with no real resolution. |
Tell them you filed for bankruptcy yesterday.

HGVC is using the loophole of being part of the Hilton family to get around the do not call list.
I started having fun the people that started calling. When they start asking the questions, I don't answer but starting them questions about them. They got really flustered and hung up. Next time I started talking about the last person I talked to and asked them to put me in touch with them. She said that she's not available right now. I said thats ok, I can wait and so can you so we'll keep talking till she's available. She then hung up. The last time they called I started going to please stop calling because the telephone number is going away later today. She asked why and I said that I went bankrupt after a whirlwind casino run and now my wife is leaving me. I asked her if my welfare and unemployment checks count as income She said sorry for that and that we'll stop calling. I hope thats true...... |

sorry to hear about other FT'ers having a problem, I received a call from HGVC and told them that I don't want this type of call from them and haven't had a call since. |
They've called me I think twice in my traveling career, and this answer seems to be the way to get them to stop calling:
'Sounds like a great deal, really, and if I wasn't a business traveler I'd probably go for it but I have so many points in various hotel chains (just in case they know how many I have in HHonors, which isn't that many in comparison to SGP and ICH for me) that my main problem is finding time in our schedule to use them.' This generally puts them off for a year or more. -cwillyg |
Interesting ways of approaching the problem.... but it does suggest the question, on a purely theoretical basis, is an obscene phone legally an obscene phone call, if you did not initiate the call?
Just kidding.... seriously. At least you are dealing with a reputable organization that should, in theory, respond to the request for no more calls. Instead, you could be dealing with an alleged mortgage refinance outfit, with a call originating from somewhere east of the middle east, but your call waiting displays a Canadian area code, and the caller says he is in California. Those are the calls that are reaching my cell phone. |
I had them calling my business number early this year. The worst of it, is that there were robocalls, and there wouldn't even be anyone on the other side of the call. I'd wait 10 seconds, and then hang up. I finally got a live person, and told them it was a business, and haven't have a call since.

I think the bankruptcy angle works the best. I had a call from HGVC a couple of months ago and I simply said that I had no money and I haven't had a call back. In fact, everytime I get a call from a company trying to sell me something, I always say I have no money and they hang up pretty fast and don't usually call back. Much more effective than requesting they don't call you again.

Hilton phone spam from 407-722-3532
...Anyone else getting called by these folks? I'm getting called anywhere from once to 5X a day.
If you Google the number it is apparently Hilton Grand Vacations, but there are also other complaints about boiler room type calls coming from that number, so the legitimacy of offers from this number is suspect. Two points: * Did Hilton lose it's customer list to a boiler room? or * Has Hilton decided to start getting more aggressive about telemarketing HGV? |
