So I paid to upgrade my room to superior water villa in order to guarantee a nice sunset view and this is the what I got. I would avoid villa 331 unless you like staring at the overwater spa. I’m actually not sure how this is an upgrade. I had to walk outside the villa on the walking path in order to get a decent sunset view at which point I could have just stayed in a regular water villa which would have a nicer ocean view unlike this room’s obstructed view.

I would either move or get my money back. That shouldn't be sold as a sunset view; had no idea it was that bad.

From my experience here on several stays, the point where the sun sets will change during the year.
You upgraded to a Superior water and that is what you got. Can’t blame anyone that you only got partial sunset view.

If it was called a partial sunset water villa you comment would hold water, however it is called a superior water villa, and on the website it states sunset view clearly under it's description. Your comment is a bit dickish......

Not that it helps anymore at this point, but in the Wiki there are two links in the "Villa Selection: Superior Water Villas" section, both mentioning to avoid 331...334 if you are concerned about the view of the Overwater Spa.

Also, a quick look into Google Maps reveals this:

Again, not trying to rub salt into AICML's wounds, but pointing out that a lot of information can be found in this thread (and condensed in the Wiki).

Just ignore the troll, after all half his posts aren't factual / accurate nor helpful.

Stayed in 334 two weeks ago,no problem with the spa and it’s a end unit. Would have no problem staying in it again.

Having trouble posting the picture for some reason but will try again later...

Thanks MaldivesFreak. He doesn’t understand the location of the hotel near the equator means the location of the sunset does not move much, even throughout the year, let alone every day. This is pretty much the view year round which is why I posted to the forum to warn others and provide a visual aid.

I didn’t request 331. Had I known all superior water villas didn’t have full sunset views I would have only agreed to pay the upgrade for specific villas. I agree whoever designed the hotel did a terrible job in placing the spa. If they only built the overwater spa slightly back, and there’s plenty of room since it’s so far out, villas 331-334 would be amazing.

Anyways, the hotel agreed to move my room as soon as a villa opened up which is this evening.

For all of you „specialists“ out here, here are 2 pictures from the sunset, made from the beach at Rangali bar.
First is from December, second from April.
You can see, that the sunset in December is behind the Deluxe Water Villas, in April the sun sets far more right (seen from the Rangali Bar) behind the Sunset Overwater Villas.
I am not a scientist to explain this, but this is definitely a fact!

I agree, the earth is flat. It's the only logical explanation for this phenomenon.

For those of you who are able to read:
How does the location of sunrise and sunset change throughout the year? (Advanced) - Curious About Astronomy? Ask an Astronomer

Short version:
Irrespective of where you are on the globe, the Sun will always rise exactly East and set exactly West on two days: March 21 and September 21 which are the two equinoxes. As to the second part, it is a little complicated
[....]
Thus, the Sun will rise north of true East and set north of true West during summer whereas during winter, the Sun will rise south of true East and set south of true West.

Everyone who doesn’t believe, that there is a slightly change of the sunset location during the year even in Rangali, can book a stay during Easter and during Christmas and witness it himself.

Maybe some of you cannot identify the different sunset locations on the fotos , because you never visited Conrad Maldives?
I can take and post more pictures the following days, if you need more proof.
