Anyone else get a phone call from HGVC "inviting" them to a property?
Last week I got a call from someone at HGVC asking 'as an important HHonors member' whether I'd prefer to visit the Orlando or NYC HGVC property. I went  but decided to go with it. I said NYC and let them have their say, offer was $400 for two nights any time I'd like over the next 12 months (can't remember if it was staying in the condos or in the regular NY Hilton) but I had to go to a short presentation (;)) while I was there....I didn't show much interest but they seemed pretty keen to please and they ended up going down to $249 for two nights, plus a $100 room credit. ^ Seemed like a good deal for bang in the middle of Manhattan but I wasn't happy to commit right there since I couldn't get hold of my wife. Was told it wasn't possible to call back...not even if they want to sell me something? ;)
Anyone know of a call back? My brother let me know over the weekend that he is going to be in NYC in December and the wife seems keen too. Would be nice to pick up the deal... Thanks Fraser :) |
I got a similar call about a month ago regarding trips to Orlando or Las Vegas to visit Hilton properties. They also dropped the price once to try to close the deal, but I don't recall the specific prices. They were similarly unwilling to set up a return call or to leave a number. The excuse was along the lines of "we have so many outgoing calls to make that we can't accept incoming calls." I hung up when they wouldn't leave contact information or arrange a later phone call.

These guys have been calling me on my cell phone about once a week.
I tell them I am not interested and that they are calling on my cell phone at very bad times. I have asked that they remove me from whatever list I am on..but I am sure that it will not ever happen. Seems a real shame that Hilton sicks the Boiler Room people on their customers. |
"Do not call" violation?
I screen all my calls, and recently I got two calls from "Hilton Grand Va" showing on my Caller ID. I didn't pick up, and I am on the Missouri and national No Call lists, so I was wondering about the violation. Am I considered a customer eligible for calls because I'm an HH member, even if not very active? I use their Amex card and have had one Hilton hotel stay this year. Also curious if I can file a complaint and get any benefits when I didn't pick up and confirm that it was a solicitation.

An EBR exists if you have made an inquiry, application, purchase, or transaction regarding products or services offered by the person or entity involved. Generally, you may put an end to that relationship by telling the person or entity not to place any more solicitation calls to your home. Additionally, the EBR is only in effect for 18 months after your last business transaction or three months after your last inquiry or application. After these time periods, calls placed to your home phone number(s) by that person or entity are considered telephone solicitations subject to the do-not-call rules. You mention having both an HHonors Amex and having stayed in a property during this year; both of those would probably qualify as creating an EBR. Per the page I linked, you would have to specifically request that they take you off of their contact lists prior to having any case under the National Do Not Call List. I am not sure about the MN Do Not Call Registry, as I have not researched it. |
I received a call a few weeks ago from a very bubbly sales lady. After listening for 30 seconds I said timeshares are one of the poorest investments known to mankind. She mumbled a more few words, said thank you and hung up.

Me, too. I have gotten a couple of these calls on my cell phone in the middle of the day, highly annoying. Once I said, "oh, this is for a time share", they usually get off the phone fairly quickly.
|
They're also really annoying when you are staying with them - as guests in the hotel. I got cornered by one of the husksters in NYC who just wouldn't let up until I was really rude about it. Since then we've had 3 calls from the one in Las Vegas. We stayed there too but neither time were we there for a 'time share' presentation we were just staying in the hotel.

No call for me but got an email about a week ago. $299 for two nights in Vegas.

I got a call about a week ago when I was in the middle of cooking supper. Told the guy that, but he wouldn't stop talking. I told him I wasn't interested and not to call back.
2nd call 48 hours later at the same time. I told them absolutely not to call back. A complete waste of my time. |
I feel lucky. I just get e-mails. click and all gone.

I complained about not getting promos, and the DD agent said "Well, you were targeted for an offer to earn xxx,xxx points in Orlando" -- Can't remember the number, but was large, which basically equated to bonus points for buying in.
I've only got one call, told the dude I didn't make enough money to purchase one (complete lie) and haven't been called back. :p |

They called me about Vegas and dropped the price to $99 for three nights. I said I needed two beds and they were O/K about it. I booked it and then found out that none of the units had two beds. It took a couple of days to get a refund. I was disappointed because it was at a time some friends were going also. |
I used to get the calls often, but I took 'em up on an offer this summer, so I think I'm now in some sort of 12- or 18-month quiet period. We decided to play along with the whole timeshare presentation and "think about it" - I was afraid that stating upfront to the huckster that "this is the worst real estate investment known to man" I'd get a lifetime ban or something.
Anyway, we got 3 free nights at the HGVC Int'l Drive in a 1-bedroom unit. Actually, slightly less than free. :) Total upfront cost was $268 - $99 for a 3-nt studio, $49 per night in "upgrade fees" to the full 1-bedroom villa, and $22 in taxes. In exchange for the "upgrade fees", I got them to throw in two 3-day Disney tix, which I immediately listed on eBay. That brought back $301 after the eBay and Paypal fees. So 90 minutes of my life bought the three nights and a few drinks. ^ The key for us was avoiding the dreaded studio unit (which is a skinny lock-off room from the 1-bedroom villas). I was hoping to just talk 'em into $99 for a 1-bedroom. I was totally surprised when they countered with amusement park tickets with that high of a face value. :D |
I think I get called about once a year for one of these.
One of the times we were seriously considering going so I started to negotiate with them, it was a MCO trip, around 2-3 days. I don't recall what the price(s) were but wanted to check with Mrs. infinityplusone first on some things so I asked for a call back number. The lady refused at first but only after asking for it once more I was given a number and was told to make sure to ask for "her name here", just in case she did not pick up the call. We ended up not taking them up on the offer but assume the number would have worked as she gave me her name, I believe, so she would get the sale. The calls don't bother me as they can sometimes be ok to good deals, plus it would earn me HH points, plus I spend 90 minutes on FT at the drop of a hat... so what is 90 minutes in a timeshare presentation. ;) |
