COMMERCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Doubletree® Hotels (NYSE:HLT - News) welcomes its 20th Southern California hotel to the brand's upscale, full-service hotel collection with the addition of the Doubletree Hotel Los Angeles/Commerce. The hotel is located inside The Citadel, a California landmark that combines name-brand shopping at the Citadel Outlets with a touch of Hollywood cinema history. The Doubletree Hotel Los Angeles/Commerce and the adjacent business park are surrounded by the Assyrian-style castle wall that was used as a backdrop in the 1959 epic movie, Ben Hur. Located just eight miles from downtown Los Angeles along the busy Interstate 5 Commercial Corridor that connects Los Angeles with Orange County, the Doubletree also is located just two blocks from the famed Commerce Casino.

The 201-room Doubletree is operated by W2005 WYN Hotels, L.P. under a franchise license agreement with Doubletree Hotel Systems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hilton Hotels Corporation. The hotel is managed by Surrey Hotel Management, LLC.

They must be rebranding the existing Wyndham.

I stayed there

about a month ago. It was nice. They had hot chocolate/hot cider available in the lobby at the check in. As a diamond, I got breakfast coupons and an upgrade to a suite. Can't complain.

It wasn't a huge issue for me, but every time I rode the elevator, people complained that the elevators took forever.

Recent stays? I'm particularly interested in the fitness center. Looks good in pictures.

Thumbs down Property in desperate need of help; grott city!

Doubletree Hotel Los Angeles/Commerce
5757 Telegraph Road, Commerce, California, United States 90040
Tel: 1-323-887-8100 Fax: 1-323-887-4343

AAA Rating: none Hilton HHonors Reward Category: 3 (25,000 points per night)

I stayed at this sheep-dipped Wyndham last week. The fitness center looked OK, though I arrived late and departed early the next day (business stay.) I stayed at a state Government rate, and they charge the state maximum per diem rate - $110. (OTOH, I stayed in the Mission Inn Resort & Spa in Riverside the previous night - $84 for a much better property, albeit somewhat quirky, but endearing quirkiness.)

This property is aging and in desperate need of cleaning up and refurbishment. The staff was welcoming, the breakfast buffet was proffered as Diamond and was OK - but the halls and corridors are worn to the point large sections of wallpaper were sagging down off the wall in places. In the room, grottiness and doubly so in the bathroom - it could easily serve as a CSI / forensics training facility. The Sweet Dreams bedding was welcome, and I dozed off as soon as I Hit the sheets - at least those appeared clean and fresh.

The closet was minuscule, everything was looking like it was purchased at a tag sale. The bathroom was pre-2000, with a straight curtain rod, and of normal size. The usual Neutrogena amenities were provided, two bottles of water were given with the choco chip cookie at checkin, and the usual ironing set etc. were provided.

The property is immediately off Interstate 5, and the building orientation (north-south) and single-pane windows practically assure you will be bombarded by traffic noise. It is next to the Citadel Outlet mall.

There is a courtyard connecting the lobby portion of the building with the hotel tower where they show classical movies at night ("Ben Hur" the night I was there) with free popcorn - the courtyard is worse than filthy, with grease, spots, popcorn bits and cockroaches (the Floridian "palmetto bugs,") to boot. I stopped at a table to use my cell phone for some calls, and this brogan-sized baby scuttled around searching for grub.

The ONLY reason to stay here is if you have nearby business, and this is what your client books for you, as in my case. Even then, I'd think twice or maybe thrice, given a HGI is a mere 1.5 miles away and an Embassy Suites 4.5 miles away. (OTOH, my points posted promptly...)

Doubletree Hotel Commerce ca

Someone in Hilton Management needs to take a close look at this hotel. It's a disaster. This is the third time in three trips here where the elevators are broke or someone is caught between floors.

The manager has these cards that say txt him if there are problems but of course he doesn't answer and problem isn't fixed.

Room decoration is a disgrace. Old tv's with remotes that don't work. Scratched up dark mohagony furniture that's missing hinges. Not enough outlets.

Two hour area Blackout and no consideration offered. No emergency power for elevators either ( maybe that's a good thing)

Some serious attention needs to be paid to this hotel. Especially when there is a HGI 10 minutes away. I'm going to seriously have to consider going to that hotel instead of here

This is the old Marriott- there is another thread on it somewhere.

If you are referring to the HGI on the golf course in Montebello I have fond memories of that place- granted from 4-5 years ago- but i would recommend it.

Not sure if you can edit your reason for editing...

Maybe Kelsey Grammer was involved somehow.

If there's a newer HGI nearby it's probably more expensive. Often, aging and shabby Doubletrees are the cheap alternative to same-market HGIs.

If the blackout was a neighborhood thing, not a hotel thing, I don't know what you can ask the hotel to do about that, though.

Ask for a room on a low floor

Stayed here last weekend (Jan 8-10, 2011) with my son for a brief holiday to LA.

When we got there one of the elevators was out of service which made for a constant line up and long wait times to get up to our room (6th floor). I got tired of waiting for the elevators and would just walk down the stairs and only use the elevator on the way up. On Monday morning both elevators were broken which resulted in a number of trips up and down the stairs. The staff was there to carry your bags down at checkout but we didn't use it as we had small suitcases.

I understand that things happen at hotels (such as broken elevators) but when I find out that it is a persistent problem that never gets fixed properly then it annoys me. If you plan to stay at this hotel you may want to call ahead to see if BOTH elevators are currently working.

Other than the elevator issue, the hotel was fine. The rooms were not spectacular but they were comfortable and clean. The pool and hot tub were enjoyable and the full breakfast at the restaurant for gold/diamonds was good. If you enjoy shopping the outlet mall is a quick walk away.

Time for an updated Trip Report.

Some basic facts remain unchanged: the hotel still sits within a stone's throw of the the Golden State Freeway, and not far from three or four others. It's about ten miles to downtown Los Angeles, but considerably further from most of the tourist things. It's a manageable bus commute to downtown (52 minutes, door-to-door); cabs are sparse out here.

I did an online check in. The room offered was probably the most ill-suited possible for my preferences. I paired the Hilton room map with Google's satellite photo and tried to improve things, maximizing distance from the freeway and the mall. http://www.citadeloutlets.com/

The hotel shares a huge parking lot with the mall. When the mall is open, there's food nearly - food court food, for the most part. Up the street, Farmer Boy's and McDonalds; opposite direction to Carl's Jr. There's undoubtedly more around, but that's what I saw. Costco, if you need a metric ton of jalapeno peppers or something.

Arrival: Parking on a rainy Saturday afternoon was pretty easy, a few rows away from the hotel. The lot is fairly well-lit. At the front desk, my key packet was waiting; no card, no ID. Three seconds and I was gone. (Would have been two, but I had to decline the cookie, thanks anyway!)

Two courtyards inside the hotel building(s). One has a pool and hot tub; the other has tables for eating/reading. Elevators - the only ones I've spotted are in the back half of the building, through the courtyard or around it.

Two elevators service seven floors, slowly.

My room could have been new a week ago, other than the absence of USB ports and dedicated charging docks. Clean and everything works.

The fitness center (the only thing I really care aout, to be honest) is great. It's huge. Precor cardio equipment with a total of six machines. Men's and Women's locker rooms (yes, locker rooms) with three showers and sauna. (I only surveyed the Men's side.) Some natural light. 24 hours.

I got breakfast vouchers (Diamond) but I've been leaving for work before they open (6:00AM-10:00AM weekdays, until 11:00AM on weekends).

The General Manager has "Hi Folks!" welcome cards everywhere, with phone number and email. I also got a pre-arrival text, to which I could have responded with special requests.

Overall, it's a nice hotel. Yes, street noise is a bummer. The only other problem I've had is - I hate to say - other guests. This isn't really a business hotel, it mainly serves multi-day outlet shoppers. People who apparently plan vacation around shopping at the outlets. (I need to pause here. I've had the same phenomenon in Ontario, CA, and well....) These aren't people who spend a lot of time in hotels. Bless their hearts, they aren't familiar with chekcing in, checking out, noise and other behaviors. They're mostly nice people, but they're on a very different mission. I feel very Type A here.

But fine hotel. I imagine I'll be back next time I'm priced out of downtown.

Update: I did make it to breakfast today. It was probably the best breakfast I've had at any Doubletree. They had all the usual things, with the great bonus for me (strict vegetarian) of roasted vegetables/squash. There was a person cooking something, omlettes, I think. I saw a waffle maker. Eggs and some kinds of meats. No option other than the buffet.

Acurate bill under the door made checkout easy and quick.

Agree with 365RoadWarrior's trip report. Though recently prices have been rising at this hotel to the point where I personally feel there is better value to be had nearby.

I would add that in addition to outlet mall shoppers (he's right, they seem to go there for multiple days as a vacation) this hotel does get quite a few foreign tour groups. Frequently see masses of Chinese, Japanese, Indian, etc tourists with 3-5 enormous bags each waiting for a big bus to take them around LA I suppose. There is, of course, nothing wrong with them being foreign or tourists, LA being a big tourist city and all... but if you get stuck behind a group at check-in, it can sometimes be quite slow and/or loud.

Stayed one night Dec. 17, 2018. The free parking was ample on a week day evening but not sure what it would be like if the adjacent Citadel Outlet is packed. Delicious chocolate chip cookies distributed on request. No upgrade for me (Diamond) but got comped full breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. Service was terrible. Not sure who was assigned to my table but had to ask both for water and for the check at the end of the meal. Tip charged to room but not yet processed by the time I checked out a half hour later.

Room was adequate. No refrigerator but could probably request one. Clean, comfortable bed and pillows, and clean bathroom. TV and remote worked well. Business center is two computers and two printers next to the restaurant. The fitness center was pretty big and well equipped. No executive lounge.

Decided on this property instead of a nearby, $10 cheaper Garden Inn because of the location (food available in the Outlet) and cookies. Nothing makes me not want to go back, but would probably check out the Garden Inn next time to see how they compare.
