Hilton San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf
2620 Jones Street, San Francisco, California, United States 94133
Tel: 1-415-885-4700 Fax: 1-415-771-8945
AAA Hotel Diamond Rating: <><><> - Hilton HHonors Reward Category: 7
Taxes are a hefty 15.50 %. Property is fully non-smoking.
The hotel is at the corner of Bay and Jones Streets, three blocks from Jefferson St. and Fisherman's Wharf, the Cable Car terminals at Hyde Street at Jefferson and Bay at Taylor; the antique streetcars / trams can be caught two blocks away at Jones at Beach, and buses are also available. Fisherman's Wharf, the Maritime Museum, Wax Museum, Blue and Gold fleet ferries and bay cruise boats, Pier 39 and aquarium, WW II submarine USS Pampanito, Ghirardelli Square, The Cannery and the bustling and even more touristy Pier 39 are all within short walking distance, as is a plethora of restaurants ranging from Scoma's, Alioto's, Fisherman's Grotto No. 9, Castagnola's or Tarantino's (all traditional Fisherman's Wharf seafood places,) as well as McCormick and Kuleto's, Butterfly (Californian-Asian,) Bistro Boudin (all things sourdough and pizza,) Lou's Pier 47 (restaurant, bar and blues,) and many more by walking slightly more (Mama's, etc.)
Location is what this hotel is all about - you come here because it is close to the Wharf area and transportation to Marin, Angel Island, San Quentin, tons of restaurants and entertainment, etc. The hotel is usually running at high occupancy, and discounted rates are rare. Don't expect any views. Link to Google maps location.
Parking: The garage entry is on Bay St., self parking is $40 / valet $50 a night; in and out privileges with coded parking keycard.
Dining: Vintner's restaurant, open 6:30 - 11:00 for breakfast, and 11:00 - 11:00PM (7 days a week) for lunch and dinner; Gold and Diamond members get chits for buffet breakfast, including eggs coked to order (and two bottles of water in the room).
Rooms x44 and x45 are across from the elevator / lift banks, and x46 next to venting machines. 285 rooms, serviced by two lifts - and lots of tour groups moving on scheduled hours. Older construction means the third and highest floor is a better bet for sound sleeping.
This property is undergoing extensive renovations during October 2013. The front desk is operating from trestle tables in a small conference room, the "restaurant" is in a larger conference room; due to tour groups, there may be periods without seating. The construction may cause significant disruptions to guests.

Day Room - Hilton SFO/Pier 39?
Will be in SF for a day (Nov 2nd) before flying back to Australia.
Arrive SFO Midday and I'm looking at doing a bike ride over the bridge/dinner etc.
Does the Hilton down near pier 39 do day rates? or would I be better looking at something around the SFO?
Looking at just storing bags and having a shower in the evening.
I do know about the SFO bag storage/shower system, just looking at something more relaxed and getting a town car back to the airport before the flight to max out the time.

Of course I only paid $88 for the whole night via MVP.

I found this bit (by JDiver) over in the property's master thread:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...s-reviews.html
The last post in that thread is around 3 years old, so perhaps things have changed since then.
One interesting item is breakfast: the in-room menu states Conti brekkies is $13.50 , "build your own omelette" $13.95 and "all-American" $14.95. The Gold / Diamond breakfast chit says ""complimentary Continental Breakfast Buffet" and "For an additional $10 per adult or $5.00 per child (12 and under) you can upgrade to the Hot Breakfast Buffet. ! The menu difference is $1.45, the chit difference is $10.00. (And, that's exactly how it works; we were charged $10 p/p for "upgrading" to eggs to order for brunch.)
The buffet itself includes some variety of tinned fruits, some not-tasty looking pineapple, two kinds of melons, cereals, breads, two kinds of scrambled eggs, etc. etc. (pretty typical buffet.) A block down Jones in the Holiday Inn is Denny's, for those who want a hot breakfast at a better price.

Why would you even want to book FW instead of US or FD ?
The FW property is constantly price more than either US or FD, it is far from any public transportation, far from shopping (other than Fisherman's Wharf), the property rated below both US and FD.
Not to mention, as a gold at FD, now you get 24 hours lounge access with both evening reception and cont.breakfast daily.

Seals the deal. No Hilton FW for me.

In the wikipost for the property (not trip reports) I posted:
At the moment the "Vintner's Grill" restaurant and "Vintner's Bar" are closed at the moment.
Parking is now $40 self, $50 nightly valet (yes, in spite of their website, this is what they are charging now) - and it's easy to miss the parking garage entrance on Bay Street.
Breakfast for Gold and Diamond members is now a roast giraffe, er, no, the full breakfast buffet including eggs cooked to order.
The rooms are not refurbished in any way and are quite 1960s, can still be noisy, and the below-window A/C was not working well, struggling to keep the room cool (and of course, they supply a nice, thick, warm duvet). The bathroom amenities are Peter Thomas Roth (the "massage" knobby soap but no bath gel), WiFi was good, two bottles of water were supplied and there was a small fridge and key-operated safe in the room.
The big plus is that it is less than three blocks from Jefferson St. (Castagnola's, trolleys to Embarcadero, Ferry and Market St.,) and a step out Al Scoma Way to Scoma's (top notch seafood), another block to your right down Jefferson to Fisherman's Wharf, etc.
The largest negative is you can get caught up in the check in or out of huge tour groups, and two elevators to service the 285 rooms on three floors.
