Again, compare to SPG.. recent bonus targeted to many Platinums... 700 bonus pts per stay to celebrate their newest brand.... and it is for any SPG stay. Hilton, gives bonuses to people who do not stay... of course may get additional business.. but my butt has been in SPG properties for the last month... I do have a stay next week, due to the Sheraton being sold out, at the Embassy suites.. but not encoraged to stay at Hilton... I am top at both, so getting more points with SPG for now.

These kind of targetted promos are why I don't stay with Hilton or Starwood anymore for that matter. After being Hilton Diamond and Starwood Plat for many years, I realized that, the companies operated on the basis that they don't need to "reward for good behavior" or for loyalty, because they felt they would get my business anyway.
It is annoying to say the least to find out about promos you're never eligible for (so I rarely visit either Hilton or Starwood boards anymore, unless to find out about point redemption - using up the ones that I have with both) So, I'm well on my way to making Marriot Platinum Elite. I've found the hotels to be equal or better quality than Hilton and Starwood, and also appreciate the fact that, as someone else stated, their promos are for everyone (or at least they offer good promos like Marriott MegaBonus for everyone,. I'm sure Marriot has targetted promos also) Maybe if my Hilton membership drops to silver, and Starwood drops to Gold or "Preferred Guest" they'll start to send me promos.. Who knows, and frankly, don't really care anymore either. I like the Marriott program just fine, and actually appreciate the fact that it's harder to earn the top tier level than with Hilton and Starwood (because Marriott only recognizes status by # of nights, not # of stays). So they're probably not as flooded with Plat elites as Starwood is or with Diamond members for Hilton. Not sure if that's true, but it seems likely. |
I didn't get a postcard, but I did the the following email a couple of hours ago; I'm Diamond (through the end of April. Sigh) with four stays in the last five months (one of them an award stay):

There were several special "book here now" links included in the email (that I've removed) so I am assuming that Hilton is tracking how many reservations came from this sort of email |
I wonder if any of the people posting here (who weren't eligible for the promo) have tried calling Hilton or writing?
I had called Hilton last year about some promos that I heard about on Flyertalk, and was signed up, albeit a somewhat drawn-out discussion. Since that time, I've not rec'd any promos. Email would probably get replied to with a form reply, and because calling can be frustrating (and yield sometimes no results), I'm wondering if writing a hard copy letter and sending via snail mail might be more effective? Personally, I've found that writing hard copy letters is often less frustrating than calling customer service (with many different companies), and actually has yielded very positive results. For example, a hard-copy letter I wrote to the customer service at my bank resulted in my getting money back - and this is a bank that is notoriously tight-fisted. I didn't even try speaking with customer service via telephone, because I didn't want to waste my time (instead I waste it on Flyertalk :p ) For example, with respect to Hilton, the letter could include some details of the promo that was not offerred (not referring to where it was learned about), with attachments of the member's Hilton statements showing less and less stays (if available, as far back as they go - for me, at least 6 yrs as diamond?), and also Marriott (or other chain) statements showing more and more stays. This seems like it would drive the point home pretty clearly, even to the most "confused" customer service reps. In this day & age with emails flying left and right, and telephone customer service agents trained to say "no", it seems like writing a letter could yield a better shot at getting desired results. I wonder if such a letter might actually move the Hilton member to the "targetted" list? One can only dream.. |

I basically have no status with Starwood, yet I never receive targetted promotional offers — and yes, I did have status with Starwood at one time. I had status with Marriott at one time as well, but I never was able to secure a concierge-level room, as an example of not being able to take full advantage of their benefits despite the status being more difficult to earn. I had status at Priority Club at one time as well and — just like Starwood and Marriott, do not receive any targetted offers. At least Hilton has treated me the best out of all of the hotel frequent guest programs, but I have been slighted for every targetted promotion as well. However, with the increase in many awards coming this June, I may consider ending the entire frequent guest concept altogether and simply stay at a property solely based on convenience and price. |

This Diamond got the Triple Base points offer today via email. Because the corporate filters remove so much of the email, I cannot determine if I have to sign up somewhere. Based on the following statement, it appears it will be automatic.
Simply stay at any of more than 2,700 participating Hilton Family hotels worldwide between April 1 and July 31, 2006, and we'll credit triple Base points to your Hilton HHonors account. What could be easier? Can anyone who received the same offer via email confirm? |
Same here
I just got an e-mail for triple points for stays between April 1 and July 31. I don't see anyplace to signup, so it looks like it's automatic.

There was no code on my postcard.

We shall see what happens...
I just changed my email to my home as opposed to work (work filters too much). I would be thrilled if Hilton gave more points, as I am currently "motivated" to stay elsewhere. But we shall see. I will stay at an Embassy this week in Scottsdale... :)

Me too: "Jailer, we’ve been wondering what it would take for you to stay with us as often as you have in the past. Would triple HHonors Base points do the trick?" The answer, "You betcha." And, as luck would have it, I have a bunch of stays already booked in that time period, Heck, two next week, with four more right behind...I guess the Hilton marketing dept. doesn't check reservations..... This is a nice surprise. |
Got a postcard, but it's for double AIRLINE miles/points. and yes it's targetted.
|
It's not just Hilton that does this - Starwood is worse.
Over the past few years I've slept in their rooms more then my own house only to see my friends receive incredible targeted promos. They worked as designed - sort of. My friends stayed there more, but I got so annoyed that I am giving all of my business to Hilton and Marriott this year. Generally happy with the move. Conrads and JW Marriotts were not really around when Starwood lured me away. If they target me this year though.... |
