Scott, I am going to be there end of May with my wife and two kids 12,15. I am staying on points at the lagoon tower because they have kitchens. I am also Diamond and was wondering if there are upgrades there...
Also, do you have any complaints?
Thanks
Kevin

Hi,
I was there from April 16th-20th ( I had booked a Partial Ocean View for $234 a few days before the rate was $314 so I changed the rate and a few hours after booking the rate had gone back to $314) a night.
Did not get upgraded as a Diamond but put on the the Ocean Tower ( rm 5035 but actually 2nd floor in that arc) overlooking the golf course and the ocean beyond it. ( the sunset could be viewed from my lanai but I preferred to go to Buddha Point.
Did get access to the Ocean Tower lounge and a fruit plate ( also free access to the fitness center and spa and lockers)
Beautiful resort.
Regards
TBS

HWV - new review - diamond member
HWV - Hilton Waikoloa Village, Big Island Hawaii W/E 4/29/06
PRO'S :
I am a Hilton Diamond Member and was upgrade to a renovated two room suite in the Ocean tower so that my kids had their own room with two
Rollaway beds. My family of 4 was very comfortable. The renovated rooms have Big Plasma screen TV's in each room
The Ocean Tower executive lounge is on the sixth floor and had good coffee / fruit / pastries / bagels and toast in the morning. From 12 to 4PM the
lounge had soda / coffee and cookies. From 5 to 7PM the lounge had cheese / veggies / and two hot small finger food type items. The lounge use was
great considering we used 4 to 6 bottles of water / soda per day and at the gift shop they would have run you $3 to $5 per bottle.
The Lagoon was very clean and clear and we all had a great time using it. My kids rented the paddle boats and paddle bikes and actually swam
right next to the turtles in a very nice environment
The pools were cool not cold. The air temp was approximately 80 to 85 degrees each day by late morning the pools were very refreshing not ice cold.
The restaurants were expensive but very good. The Italian restaurant ( Donatani's ) and the Provision company restaurant were excellent.
Dinner for a family of 4 ( two kids under 12 ) ran approximately $170 to $200 with a round of drinks. Everything in Hawaii is expensive.
Breakfast at the Palm Terrace was also very good ( $ 27.00 per person ).
We were at the property for 8 days and the Trams and / or Boats were always waiting for us. We never had more than a 2 or 3 minute wait.
I think since the Ocean tower is the last stop and we spent most of our time at the Lagoon and Kohala pool ( the opposite end of the property ) also the
last stop had something to do with their almost always being either a tram or boat waiting for us. The few times we decided to walk it was a very nice walk with great artwork and nice scenery. The walk only took about 7 minutes from the lagoon to the ocean tower with two kids and " stuff " in tow.
The employee's at the property were very helpful and very nice. I did not have one single negative issue or encounter the entire time we were on property. The property is a great Hilton property my family had a tremendous time !
CON :
ALAMO CAR RENTAL
I know Alamo is always cheaper but you get what you pay for !
The service picking the car up and then again dropping the car off was
HORRENDOUS !. At 10:00PM at night with 2 full flight landing only two people working at the counter and a line of 15 customers. Nobody
behind the counter had any sense of urgency ( the car rental almost took as long as the flight from NJ ). 1 hour and 15 minutes in line to get
a car rental after 18 hours of traveling.
Dropping the car off was the same. 8 cars lined up to check back into Alamo with one guy hold a handheld computer. It took him
25 minutes to get to me and then the shuttle from the counter to the terminal took another 20 minutes to come. In the time it took the Alamo
shuttle to come back to the rental counter to take people to the terminal the national shuttle passed twice / the Avis shuttle passed twice and the hertz
shuttle passed 3 times.
I will never rent from Alamo again !

HWV - which tower
We were at the Ocean Tower of the HWV last year. We had a lower floor
room and had a great view of the ocean through many palm trees .
We will be back again this year and are wondering which tower to go
for. We will have our kids and my parents with us. Walking is not a problem
for us, so distance isn't our concern. Between Ocean and Lagoon, are there
any pros and cons in terms of view and rooms? As a diamond, I'm praying
(oh lord, please oh please) for an upgraded suite. Last year as gold, we were "upgraded" to the ocean tower and were very pleased with the location. I'm
wondering if the Lagoon (view of the dolphins) would be better? Is it very
noisy there? Quite a hike to get to breakfast, though.
I would appreciate any comments to help me decide on which tower to stay at.

Hi,
To be honest, only a few rooms in the Lagoon tower would have any view of the Dolphins ( if my memory and visualisation is correct). ( I was there from 16th to 20th April).
Whilst the lagoon tower is closer to the car park and the lobby - it will be a good 10-15min walk each way ( or time waiting for the tram/boat) to get to the Executive Lounge in the Ocean Tower for breakfast ( and evening snacks until 7pm).
The Lagoon tower is probably not that noisy.
I would probably just go for the Ocean Tower ( unless you are desperate for the Lagoon)
PS I am also a HH Diamond and did not get upgraded.
Regards and enjoy the HWV.

Just got back last night from HWV - we were there from 4/23 to 5/1, stayed on points and were put in the ocean tower #xx87. The room looked out to the lagoon with nice ocean views as well.
The room was great but we were a bit cramped as there were four of us (3 adults and a 2 year old). The biggest bonus we got was an extended checkout time of 9:00 PM on our last day.
Our flight was not until 11:00 PM and I was prepared to buy an additional night with dollars. I called the front desk and the guy extended our checkout to 9:00 PM - this basically gave us a free day which was a welcome bonus.

I would say Ocean or Palace tower. Ocean tower has the diamond lounge and Palace tower has the gold lounge and not too far away from each other.

I always used to request Ocean Tower. This year they assigned me Lagoon Tower, so I gave it a try. 6th floor, fantastic view. It's my new favorite. Yes, it's a hike to Palm Terrace or the Palace Tower Lounge. But that's once a day. The walks to everywhere else you want to go are shorter than from Ocean Tower. Lagoon is the place to be. Ocean side, that is.

sorry. Really should have posted it here in the first place.
Are the standard rooms decorated the same in both towers?
Is one "nicer" than the other? Amenities the same?
