P.S. Congrats on Gold, 3timesalady!

I spent New Year's last year at the Conrad Jupiters, upgraded to Exec Floor as a gold on cheapest prepaid rate. Hotel was packed. Nice big lounge with Wifi and friendly service. Just remember HHonors members take a back seat to the gamblers at this hotel. You'll be treated well as long as there aren't too many high rollers around. Enjoy your stay, we sure did!

As Gold

I noticed that if you are very nice and smile you will have a good chance of getting upgraded when available. I was upgraded to a city view room in Rome (given lounge access for free, but that was arranged with the GM) and otherwise gold members get free breakfast (it is amazing) and free health club access.

In Chicago, the Palmer House almost always upgrades gold members and gives them lounge access (See thread on this hotel)

In Los Cabos I was given free continental breakfast for my entire party (4 people) and was given a room with a nice view, but all the rooms have nice views.

For me the biggest benefit is the breakfast. In Rome it was over 20 euros a person, and in Mexico, it was something like $15 a person. Both of those stays were on points as well. I will be staying at the Vienna Dunabe Hilton, and will enjoy my free breakfast as a gold this spring.

As another poster said, in Europe you get to access some great lounges! I think in Europe, because they don't have any low end hiltons, gold status is given more recognition. My experiences and the free breakfast will keep me staying at hiltons in the future.

Cheers

Timo

hh gold vs. spg gold sure the hilton gold is much better but spg platinum with the suite upgrades is in my eyes one of the best things spg offers.

i got only one suite upgrade as a diamond (which was at the conrad tokyo...)

so i still say, SPG plat is better than HH diamond for suite upgrades.

i agree that hh gold is better than spg gold , which means nothing.

I disagree SPG has no blackout dates. That is what I use most as a diamond. My upgrade rates at both SPG and Hilton are close. PLAT/ Diamond IF I had to be a mid tier in one program it would be SPG, because of the no blackout dates, service is about the same, IMHO.

Cool, thanks for the info! ^ Previous posts have seemed to be mixed on elite treatment there, so I won't be expecting too much anyway (I'm just happy I got a room!). But hopefully I'll get some pretty good benefits... :)
