Sorry for the delay.

After thinking about what to write, I think
I can sum up PR in a few sentences.

There are many better places in the Caribbean.

The hotel is very nice, but in the city.
It is on the ocean, but not really private.

It is private in the sense that not too many hotels can have there guests walk up.

Pool is ok, just not designed well, for instance, you can't swim around the whole pool, you have to get up and walk to the next section.

The beach (man made) is like a round lagoon. Good for little kids (I have two 5 and 7) but lousy because you can't enjoy any waves.

Morton's steakhouse (like Ruths' chris) was awesome, and worth one night out.

The rooms were standard, we had three connecting together, each had a deck.

Had access to the HHonors lounge, which was great for breakfast and drinks at night.

Hotel was vert full and staff was great.

It was my first time in PR, and I was a little disappointed in the traffic and distances to get to places.

Rainforest was ok, and city life was good - felt very safe.

Next time i'd try the Westin Rio Mar.
Much higher quality, plus kitchens.

P.S. It was good for a last minute trip two days prior to burn a GLON award and eight free Delta tix

The Westin Rio Mar is absolutely incredible. I spent three amazing weeks there two years ago.

Caribe Hilton... if you want to stay in San Juan, you could certainly do worse... but my opinion is it is not worth the incredibly high rates they often charge.

I got a special internet rate when I stayed there and enjoyed it, but the room was uninspired. Enjoyed having access to the executive lounge though.

It looked nice when we've visited it (did not stay), but there are negative comments on the *wood forum re: this place.

FYI it is NOT in San Juan and is about 20-30 minutes East of San Juan on the NE side of the island. But is very close to El Yunque and Luquillo Beach.

Just wish the Carribe Hilton still had a casino

I like Caribe except:

- $10 resort fee
- No fixed price local calls - charged per minute
- Thought Exec lounge did not have very inspiring hors d'ouevres - but free booze was nice
- LONG line at check-in downstairs (I should have read the thread before going I guess)

Just back from a week at the Caribe. The lounge amenities have been cut back. No Crown Royal, Jack Daniels and the food selection is now cheese, crackers, breads, veggies and an occasional chicken wing. Did not see any chilled seafood as in the past two stays.

This was my third stay in 6 months at what I consider very high rates. The lack of a suite upgrade for a repeat customer on a week long stay was very disappointing. I used a GLONP for someone as well as my paid stay and again, no upgrade.

The cleaning staff was very nice with the turn down service and the daily free bottles of water.

A year ago I enjoyed all of the above, and a bottle fo champagne with my turn-down service. Not bad for a Priceline stay!

Caribe Hilton - Puerto Rico - two bedroom suites

Anyone know offhand if there are two bedroom units/suites at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico?

I know you can combine a room through the adjoining doorways.

San Juan Caribe Hilton

We will be in San Juan for 2 nights before a cruise. The Caribe Hilton was recommended.

How is the hotel, rooms, etc. I heard it was recently remodeled? Also heard the beach and location are good.

I am Hilton Gold, any idea about what to expect re upgrades, exec floor, free breakfast, etc?

Thanks in advance

David

Great Hotel!
Wonderful beach about a 15 minutes drive
called Isla Verde..on weekends the beach behind the El San Juan Hotel in Isla verde is amazing!

The caribe Hilton has a small beach, not bad..very relaxing..

Warning. The area outside of this hotel is bad. I had my car broken into.

Nice hotel. Rooms small-ish but decent. Small private beach with nice pool area. Cars can be broken into anywhere. Never felt unsafe although later at night you may feel more comfortable taking a quick cab back if you are out in the Condado area (even though its not a far walk).

You made a really nice choice. Go find the "search" feature of FT and type in "caribe hilton" or something similar to get a lotta useful info. Isla Verde has some great wide beaches as noted previously and you can actually ride the bus to there for 25 cents or take a taxi for about $5. One can drive but parking there is a real problem. Ask the hotel concierge about the bus.
