I stayed there in Feb. A great Hotel. I am Gold VIP and when asked I was given a Junior Suite! The HHonors lounge is great with Snacks and free drinks, etc. The pools are good and views are outstanding. Also loved the Happy hour, from 4-6 I think. 1/2 Bacardi Drinks, $3 Pina's & Daquiris!! Na Casino, but there is aone a short walk away. Quick warning, the walk up the hill to Old San Juan is a little trip and can be tiring!Have a great Trip.

About the only negative thing you can say about this hotel is it is not within walking distance of much. But other than that, the hotel is awesome. I also read they have just completed a huge spa area.

Resort Fees come to the Caribe Hilton

For the first time that I can remember, I've been charged a resort fee at a Hilton property - $6/day, without notice at check-in. I questioned it upon checkout and didn't make a big stink - I wonder if these started as the energy surcharge disappeared. (Otherwise, I do like the property and have stayed there 4 times or so.) I know the resort fees have been an issue over at Starwood properties, but never knew of them at Hiltons. Have I just been lucky, or blind?

I have a reservation at the Marco Island HIlton end of October--I'm told there is an 8.50 or so resort service fee. We're HH Gold --should we 'fight' this charge???

I stay at the Caribe Hilton several times a year and was there several weeks ago. I noticed the resort fee for the first time during this last stay. I was told it strated July or Augsut 1 (I don't recall which they said.) They justified it by pointing out all the "extras" they provide - beach towels, free newspapers, etc... I didn't find the argument very convincing since the items they identified have always been provided or are included with Gold+ status. That having been said, the Wyndham El San Juan has been charging a resort tax since at least last year and it is approximately double what the Caribe Hilton charges!

Just came back from a 3-night stay at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs in PHX and was pleasantly suprised at check-in when I was told the $9/day resort fee was optional. The desk clerk gave me a list of what the fee covered and then asked if I wanted it. Given what our plans were, it was a good deal and so I paid it, but it certainly was nice to have been given the option.

Also, Gold amenities came without even asking - upgrade to a very nice corner king suite with a great view, breakfast coupons for both my wife and myself, and complimentary late check-out.

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay even though it still was quite hot.

I wish I did! Enjoy your trip, enjoy the lounge and most all of al, enjoy the people.

The paella in the Spanish restuarant is very good if you don't feel like leaving the property.

You might want to take a cab to Kasulta's Panaderia (www.kasalta.com) for an early morning cafe con leche and an incredible assortment of pastries and desserts.

Yu want to search for posts by Sweet Willie on a host of places to eat and places to
visit.

My wife Loved, with a capital L, a snorkeling trip that takes you to a small reef and island off the eastern side of the island.

Me too! PR is the best island in the Caribbean IMO, so much to do. The people are warm and PR is one place it is easy to interact w/locals, unlike many other islands.

Have FUN!!!!

Have a great visit, tasnam! Mrs. Frugal and I had the pleasure of staying at that property just after they reopened it a few years back. It is a marvelous place.

Just got back from Caribe Hilton.

Will post report another time, but learned one important lesson:

After I left for the trip, I had two people reply that they would be a the Hilton and they would like to talk "Points & miles". Since I left and didn't bring my laptop I did not read their emails until my return tonight. I should have left my name online for people to look me up at the hotel!

Dumb mistake. Sorry I really would have loved to meet you guys!

Next trip!

(Send me a digital picture of you and maybe I'll recognize you from the HHonors lounge)

Go directly to the Executive check-in desk (through the blue doors, to the far right). As a Diamond, you will get access to the excellent Executive lounge. You should get an upgrade to one of the executive floors higher up as well.
