I guess what Doc is saying is that Reno is full of cheap dumpy hotels.

It's a Vegas with a downtown but no strip.

But that's what the unwashed want. And that's what the undwashed get.

I've been forced to stay at the Reno Airport Hilton four times this year because my company books their quarterly sales conferences there. Must be that $15 a night rate! Anyway, one woman's opinion based on experience. I completely agree with the initial post -- the Reno Hilton is the hotel from hell. Rude staff, dirty rooms, and utter contempt for HHonors members. I've got over 40 stays in 2001 at different Hiltons and without a doubt the Reno Hilton is the worst. I just don't understand why in this business climate Hilton corporate allows the Reno property to drag down the
chain's hard earned reputation.

One can only imagine that it is a franchised location. Since I work for a company that is a large franchise organization I can tell you how difficult the laws in this country make the job of a franchisor. It is extremely difficult for a franchisor to "punish" or revoke the franchise even if the franchisee is not following the organizations standard operating procedure.

If it's really true that you can't control your franchisees and you value your image, then don't franchise. But that doesn't seem to be a good excuse for bad behavior. Look at McD's, they have plenty of franchise locations, and they don't seem to have a problem with waywards.

Pleading that you don't have control over your fanchisees is ridiculous. I'll grant you that car dealership are in a class of their own because of political influence at the local level.

Unless mistaken, this is a Park Place property. Policies change regarding treatment toward Hhonors members whenever management changes and that is often. What is goofy today, might be better next month.

Yeah, I'd suggest you drop Hilton because of one bad experience.

Reno doesnt have many business travelers. Sparks does but it has zilch hotels. Many times I thought I was the only business person in Reno (while doing business with a nice company in Sparks) staying in the Hilton, Peppermill, Harrah's etc. I agree the Reno Hilton is a dump They have some other dumps too.

Actually I preferred the Peppermill. The $1.99 8 oz rib-eye steak-n-eggs was far better than any USA free HH continental breakfast and far more fattening to boot. They actually would bring free breakfast shrimp after they got to know me as a regular. I had no problem leaving a 150% tip for the nice girl. Burp!

Hi MisterNice,

You're a man after my soul. A man with no presumptions. Someone who doesn't expect a Four Seasons for 15 bucks a night.

I'm with you, really, I love to go to Vegas and chow down. Get a room for 15 bucks a night, go over to Rio and eat. Burp.

At $29 a night, it's an easy way to make Diamond for $812 a year. And that's about all Diamond seem to be worth any more.

I don't know if this rates qualifies for an HHonors stay or points.

If you're going to be abused by these Park Place people, you might as well go for the best deal. Nov. 18 - Dec. 27 (excl. Nov 23-24), $29 a night with $20 back in slot machine food. 800-648-5080 Rate Code RNT12.

Whatever this hotel lacks in "amenities", it is probably one of the best hotels in the country for "airport watching." Get a room that faces south or southeast on a high floor and you get a full view of both the terminal area and both runways. Take along a scanner that picks up aircraft frequencies and if you are a "plane nut" like I am, you can sit in your room looking out the window for hours.

This just in from the national sales manager for the Fortune 500 Company that I work for:
"Due to an extraordinary number of complaints regarding the quality of service and hotel rooms, our quarterly sales conferences for Year 2002 have been moved from the Reno Hilton to Harrah's Reno . . . ." This is big because the company has a corporate account with Hilton and we must stay at a Hilton property whenever possible. The buzz around the office is that a Sr. Exec. VP got the typical rude Park Place/Reno Hilton/Hotel from Hell treatment last week. Hilton corporate, are you listening?

Lisadiamond2002,

I hope your cooperate decision will put some more weight on Hilton/Park Place to reconsider about its customer services. I lives a couple hours from Reno. We used to go there for weekend get aways a lot and my company used to have sales meeting as well. However since the split of Hilton and Park Place, Flamingo Hilton became Flamingo Reno and went down much quicker and finally closed its door on 10/23. Reno Hilton followed the same steps. HHonor elite members were treated like "beggers" for asking what was reserved and what was stated in HHonor program as benefits. The manager's attitude is beggers can not be chooser so take whatever we gave you. You should considered to be the lucky one that we let you stay in our Park Place hotel. I have filled out a few of comment cards and never heard a thing back. Now I go to Vegas for short get aways and my company have meetings in Tahoe. It seems the management at Park Place do not realize the important of services. They shows an attitude that Park Place is so wonderful that anyone should be honored to stay in its properties. If there is anything wrong, the customer is unreasonable.

Reno Hilton is home for me 1-2 nights/yr for the last 5 yrs. I always remember HHonors check-in, and the service/rooms acceptable by Hilton standards. Food excellent, and many choices.
